Couldn't think of a suitable thread to put this on! Could be that it proves that my mum was right not to let us use the public library 'because you never knew who had been reading those books'!

Soop's Kitchen Extension
(1001 Posts)kitty I sent you [hugs] but 1000 messages later means that we need to open an extension.
It's been a strange day. Apart from worrying about the whereabouts of Greatnan I've not been very productive. The weather is behaving in an unsettled fashion. Inky clouds, Lashing rain. The promise of a brighter sky. Please keep coming to the kitchen. I would miss the company of you lot if you stayed away.
Budge up girls, I need to toast my feet! Just home from the airport having dropped off the family for their flight home. The place is like a morgue - so quiet and almost as cold as, typical on the coldest night of the year, the CH has b****y well packed up. It was fine this morning, even though the boiler is working and heating the water, no heat is arriving in the radiators
. I have diagnosed pump probs but it may well be an electrical hitch - I am absolutely no-use-at-all in a crisis. Perhaps it's just as well they have gone home as I wouldn't like the children to have got too chilly. It's -2 already. They are snorting and snuffling and none of us got any sleep last night with the mountaineer crying every hour on the hour. Hrrmph. Anyway, good news, the gas man calleth tomorrow morning, hopefully to fix the problem.
Welcome home Lona make the most of your enforced me-time. Hope you soon feel much better, but take it slowly.
I have the plumber coming tomorrow to completely repipe my house! He thinks 3 days, I think a week +
One good thing, I'm working in Taunton tomorrow and Wednesday and 'they' have agreed it'll be cheaper to put me up at a premier inn than taxi me up and down twice, so, I'll be ok tomorrow night! It's just Wednesday and possibly Thursday night I'll be cold! I'm working in Bristol on Thursday so I'm out of their way for the three days anyway!
Gally make sure you keep wrapped up tonight and with one of *soop's 'wee drams' and your toes near the Aga, you should be fine.
Hopefully the plumber will sort it fairly quickly!
I'll just sit quietly and listen. So many of you with this and that to deal with.
and galen's shortbread for everyone.
My DGD says 'Graggies cake! Nice!'
To me that's better than any tv award!
Bags looking at a carbon fibre bow! It's a lovely blue colour! Elite + have you any knowledge?
What make is it, galen?
Sebastian Flute?
Elite I believe?
Gally you should write a book. You have a gift for making me laugh...a bit like Pam Ayres.
Galen Mr soop and I find the Premier Inn to be very comfortable and the fish, chips and mushy peas are to be recommended. Although, I always ask for a small portion...and get the opposite.
OGM looking back at the photo of my father and me, I can't help but wish that I still had that hair...It's so much thinner now.
anno that reminds me...I must return my book to the library or face a fine
. As for all those gremlins leaping about between the pages...not very savoury...but I suspect that they've been around for an awful long time. Cannot imagine reading a book wearing latex gloves.
Hello bags lovely to see you.
Lona I'm about to make you a bowl of nourishing vegetable soup. The amount of laundry that I've ironed this morning [for my friend] filled two huge baskets. Even though I didn't ease up for a moment, I couldn't manage to finish it all in three hours. Never mind, that will be put to right next week.
kitty I would like to put my arms around you. You are in a very difficult place. My thoughts are with you.
Do you know soop that is just what I fancy.
In hospital I wasn't allowed to eat of course, ( I went from Thursday lunchtime until Monday lunch with NO REAL FOOD!) and all I had was a small cup of the most delicious soup I've ever tasted.
I'm sure your homemade vegetable will hit the spot nicely
In return I've left a huge chocolate cake laced with brandy and filled with fresh cream. It will go very well with everyones' coffee. I hope I got that apostrophe right
For anyone who doesn't mind me bragging...I'm about to include a pic of the car that, after eleven years, has helped me to become confident behind the wheel. Thank you, Mr soop. Thank you, car.
Lona you, my dear, are a star.
soop my dear, so are you!
Funny you should say that Soop...............
Lovely set of wheels and very shiny she is too
Hurray - my heating is back on - after an hour and a half it was diagnosed as a faulty wireless thingummyjig so I now have a 2 new ones -one to give instructions and one to receive so we're/ I'm back in business. A night of chillyness makes you appreciate what you normally accept without even thinking.
I am up to my eyeballs in washing - sheets, sheets and more sheets. No lunch yet so may just have to sneak a ladle full of your veggie soup soop if that's ok with Lona?
Feel free Gally, you need something to keep you going!
Lovely shiny wheels Soop - mine used to look like that when it was new and I took it to the immigrant car wash every week. Alas, the novelty (and the shine) wore off!
Whose is the beautiful dog - it reminds me so much of my lovely Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Hamish that I had as a child. I fell in love with him at a dog show when I was about 7 when I was allowed to "borrow" him from a local breeder for the Children's Handling Class and my parents totally surprised me shortly afterwards when Daddy brought him home after work one evening! Can you imagine how excited I was!! Things like local dog shows don't exist any more do they? He was the most loving, soppy dog ever.
Hoping Lona is on the mend now? And Kitty you have your share of worries today too.
Do other people get nostalgic on their children's birthdays? It is DD3's 32nd today and I am feeling quite sad reminiscing about all those years ago.....she was a terribly good baby and toddler and such a joy to be with, always a very sunny little girl. People used to wonder why we called her "Fizzy" - until they met her! As DH said in his speech at her wedding "a girl whose smile lights up the room."
Gally get toasting those toes. Delighted to hear that your thingymajig is sorted. I would do your ironing for you...if I could.
gracesmum The car isn't new. It looks it and it is spotless inside. As you rightly say, the novelty soon wears off...but not just yet
The beautiful wee dog is called Rosie. I painted the portrait for one of our granspals.
gracesmum..."a girl that lights up the room..." How perfect is that.
Lovely set of wheels Soop! We`re selling our car soon, hubby doesn`t feel that he can drive anymore.
Lovely wheels soop and what a lovely gentleman you good old dad was.
Good wishes to everyone not feeling 100% healthwise or emotionally. Keep strong
Hellooooooooooooooo! Good morning......???
Am I really the first up? Better get the coffee and the porridge on then.
Some of us have been up since silly o clock (5.30 in my case) taking DH to hospital for his op this morning. Thought I might get a free coffee at Waitrose on my way home (7.30) but the wretched place wasn't even open. No wonder this country is going to the dogs!!! [disgusted of Tunbridge Wells] emoticon
DH is having a Mastoidectomy which I do not understand but it is a 2 hour op and while not a life threatening condition, has given him severe pain for several months plus he can't have a hearing aid fitted for that ear as it is all inflamed, infected and there's "stuff" (bits if necrosing bone and tissue ) apparently blocking the ear canal. In the overall scheme of things he has had/had done to him it is not at the top of the list, but sounds nasty. So a snuggle up on the sofa if Rory will allow is what I feel like!
Oh poor him. gracesmum no fun whatsoever. Hope it all goes ok. Would love to curl up on sofa with you guys but duty is calling in the form of an unaccustomed amount of work. So hug you and leave you for now.
