Gally I've had two large G&T's and have been watching Montalbano. It was rather good tonight. Some connection with Mafia and that lot!
Well, it's bedtime and once again, I wish you all sweet dreams. Perhaps there will be uplifting Greatnan news tomorrow. Wouldn't hat be lovely.
Tomorrow is Mr soop's 73rd birthday. We shall celebrate by having lunch at a pleasant venue. After which, I shall return to spend time with my Granfriends.

Fleecy pyjamas - just bought some brilliant thick fluffy fleece jimjams from ebay and they are truly wonderful. Wore them last night with thick bedsocks and two quilts and had the best night's sleep I have had in ages. Our bedroom has outside walls on 3 sides with big balcony glass doors on the front of the house) and it gets mighty chilly in spite of the double glazing.

I've just made some Quince Jam and a few scones to eat it with to share with you all. Please can I have a seat on the sofa Soop if I promise not to dribble the jam ?

I've done nothing but graze all day long, I feel quite disgusted with myself, but as there are a few pieces of shortbread left......oh, go on, I'll have one. Only 5 minutes until wine o'clock. I have a lovely log fire roaring away - totally unnecessary, but it cheers me up a bit; would be nice to share it with someone though.

I'm feeling a bit rustic to-day just got changed into fleecy jimjams and lord help anyone who knocks at the door to-night and disturbs me while I am tasting all the goodies on offer here.

I likes anything "rustic" ...so much more characterful.

The chocs seem to be multiplying as I hand the box around. What's more, there are more hard centres than there are supposed to be. Magic!

Galen bugger 20cm squares of shortbread for a game of soldiers. Mosaic pieces are far more interesting. Shall I taste a few one just to make sure.

Merlot there is no calorie counting allowed in the kitchen. All the food is virtually calorie-free. As it should be.

LizG What a lovely gift for a soon-to-be teenager. I was still in ankle socks [when not at school] until my fourteenth birthday. I believe that's when my dear Papa decided that I was old enough to wear a bra...but definitely no make-up and only Louis heeled shoes on very special occasions.

Galen I have just made cardamom shortbread and I rolled it between two layers of cling film. It worked fine. However it is so short that some of the biscuits broke as I lifted them off the tin. You are all welcome to have some.

I have one of those for petticoat tails. But this was a shortbread apricot shortbread sandwich. I've squished it!

I thought you meant glass's dainty suggestion of squidging it into shape.

Pack it into something flat and shallow the right size and turn it out onto a baking tray. Dust the mould with flour and sugar first or it will stick and never come out.

Or splash out and buy a wooden shortbread mould with shapes carved on it (in Edinburgh when you are up in December) But don't do as DD1 did. She thought she was supposed to bake it in my wooden mould, which now has a crack across it.

Surely you can't roll shortbread Galen. Perhaps you could press it down very hard on a lasagne dish base or a swiss roll tray but then it wouldn't be square.
