IMPORTANT QUESTION regarding MISSING CAROL

(61 Posts)
Heather1234 Thu 31-Oct-13 22:47:23

Hi, Did anyone on here receive any communication from my grandmother, Carol Sheridan, anytime after 2pm on Saturday the 26th of october?

This is the time of which she was last active on her facebook account. We are just trying to establish a timeline.

Any info helpful thank you!

Heather

Elegran if she told her daughter she would go for a drive instead of hiking she must have been in contact just before she left home.

The timeline of what Greatnan was doing before she went missing is not clear. When was the very last time she was in contact with someone before she went missing? What day was she last seen?

Maybe this weekend will bring some people out who are otherwise occupied during the week - weekend walkers, cyclists etc. I take the point about deserted roads in remote areas but surely someone else must use them sometimes. If there was an accident, I'm thinking that it must have been on Sunday afternoon as Carol would almost certainly have been on faceboook when she got home again, either responding to posts or telling us what she had been doing. It is a sobering thought.

On another thread, I read thatGreatnan was short of petrol on one of her forays (with the poster possibly when) Perhaps she popped off to get petrol, I hope they search her route with a fine-tooth comb. (sorry about the mixed metaphor) Has her local garage been contacted? Sorry if this has all been done, but it's getting dark again and I (Like ALL of you) am getting really worried.

I agree OGM her car could have gone off the road and possibly can't be seen. Or my other thought have been did she possibly decide to take a trip somewhere. People often do things that are out of character.

It is disturbing and I know we would all like to see her safely found!

Oldgreymare It's at this time of day when my imagination goes into overdrive. I should be helping Mr soop to prepare the roast dinner. Or, I should be cleaning the bathroom. And, I should be settling down to read today's newspaper, sometime soon. But I cannot bear to log off. The not knowing is awful...how much worse must it be for Greatnan's family.

soop Sat 02-Nov-13 17:12:03

Greatnan is a great communicator. Her Facebook pages are packed with images of beautiful scenery. She shares her travel adventures and her jokes. She wouldn't simply hide herself away knowing that her family would be distraught. It really isn't in her nature to not keep in touch with others.

I have just picked up this terrible news. Lots of people go missing in the Alps but fortunately the weather in the mountains is not yet dangerously cold. Surely the mountain rescue have checked with their helicopters and cameras. It was school holidays last week over here in Germany and there must have been more people than usual walking.
It is very worrying.......

Oldgreymare Sat 02-Nov-13 17:15:08

Soop I can' t settle to anything either! I'm going to make a valiant effort to shape up and do as much as I can before settling down to 'Strictly' then I'll be checking up again!

Why oh why were concerns not addressed by police before phone battery ran out ? engineers can pinpoint a persons position by using location of phone masts. I feel that had this been the UK a search would have been instigated much sooner.

It is easy to be wise after the event but I am sure the first 24 hours after a disappearance are the most vital - and I am shocked that the police didn't think to go into the flat before now. Yes the neighbour said he/she saw the car but Greatnan could have been injured or worse in the flat and the the car could have been driven by a burglar. I know crime is rare in that area but there is always a first time. However, that is in the past and now it must be a case of finding the car.

bikergran Sat 02-Nov-13 19:45:59

I'm presuming if they have ctv camera's anywhere about they will have looked at them.... I know here in Grt Brit..we have them all over the place and it I believe it is one of the 1st things that are looked at..but I suppose greatnans area is remote and they may not have such things.

Carol has suitable tyres for mountain roads, she goes go for a walk in damp weather if rain eases up, she goes out early for long walks, later for short walks, the local mountain rivers are shallow and rocky bedded, so her car would not slide in and under water, the lakes are either so heavily populated around that she would be noticed, or there is Lac Du Vallon where you park up before going to walk by it. These are suggestions that have been looked at soon after the alarm was raised, and answered in pm's or early on in the threads.

Also, the shutters can be opened from the outside, not inside, and you can see into her sitting room through the French windows. Easy to see most of her apartment and gauge whether she is there. She wouldn't 'leave in a rush' simply because she left some dishes in the sink. Some conclusions being reached unnecessarily, sadly - if Carol was seen driving away in her car at lunchtime, it's 99.9% certain it was her, she was ok, and she wasn't going far.

Nelliemoser Sat 02-Nov-13 20:56:56

I have missed the story about a car like hers being found. Where did that info come from and what time did it come in?

Mishap Sat 02-Nov-13 21:02:31

Nellie - it seems the sighting was not confirmed.

Nelliemoser Sat 02-Nov-13 21:09:54

Thanks mishap I Am wary of uncomfirmed rumours. Its false hopes.

Interesting post from LaraGransnet on the IMPORTANT thread.

glassortwo Sat 02-Nov-13 21:18:42

Surely to god they have been to the right village!!! angry

whenim64 Sat 02-Nov-13 21:26:15

Please, folks! These random grenades are not helpful. Of course the two Haberes are distinguishable. Someone is being a bit silly there!

glassortwo Sat 02-Nov-13 21:34:17

when we are all worried and its only natural we are going down every avenue we can.

whenim64 Sat 02-Nov-13 21:46:44

Yes, I know glass but this way is madness! Carol is well known to quite a few friends and family who understand her behaviour and routines. The police have been slow to act, but the idea of them going to the wrong village shouldn't be exercising our brains. They are different places and looking at a map to notice the similar names and speculate they went to the wrong village........what can I say? This is where these policemen live and work!

Notso Sat 02-Nov-13 21:59:13

The friends and family who understand Carol's routines and behaviours aren't the only people who are posting though when, so what's obvious to you may not be to everyone. On the other thread you asked for any ideas..however left field, so I hope those ideas keep coming.

glassortwo Sat 02-Nov-13 22:16:21

when thats what the thread is for, to free up the main important thread so we can all voice what is on our mind.

Those of us who dont know the geography of the place have no idea how obvious it would be to the Police, but I am sorry that I have diverted things from whats uppermost in all of our mind..... Carol.
