Everyone at Gransnet is absolutely devastated by the news about Carol. She was a unique and inspiring member of our community and her wisdom, wit and tales of adventure will be missed more than we can say. Our hearts go out to her family - who she loved with such pride and passion.

As you know, they have asked that people don't contact them directly but instead leave tributes on the facebook page.

For those who are not on facebook (or who would prefer to add their feelings here), please do so here - we will post a link to this page on facebook so that your tributes will be seen by her family.

I discovered Gransnet through Carol's tragic accident. I too live in the foothills of a wonderful range of mountains in France but I lacked her get-up-and-go, not to mention her free spirit. You died in the place you would have wished, doing what you most enjoyed, Carol. You will be missed, not only by your family but on the many forums you to which you contributed with your wit and wisdom.

Thinking about Carol today, and about her family, especially in NZ, as she should have arrived there to spend Christmas and a couple of months with them.

So sad and tragic that she is not with them- stay safe and take care all grannies out there.

I thought of her yesterday as I was in a shop that had some lovely photos of the Alps. Good that she is with us in our minds. Her family will miss her.

glammanana Fri 13-Dec-13 13:07:34

Such a sad time for them I'm sure Carol is deeply missed by everyone, granjura enjoy your Christmas flowers

Agus Fri 13-Dec-13 13:08:05

I knew it was sometime this month Granjura and thought of Carol's family having to deal with this extra sadness. Just feel so much for them.

yourusername123 Fri 13-Dec-13 13:35:42

You too Granjura.

I miss her.

mrshat Fri 13-Dec-13 17:15:13

Strange that this thread should start again - I logged on this afternoon and really missed her, and then found this thread. Hope all her family are coping well.

Soutra Fri 13-Dec-13 19:31:42

Clearly a reincarnation yourusername123 or have you been lurking for years and years???

granjura Sat 14-Dec-13 12:27:49

What a shame to spoil this... what is the point, really?

Soutra Sat 14-Dec-13 15:00:05

Who's spoiling anything, GJ?
Not being aware of any posts by yourusername123 on any of the threads relating to Greatnan or any threads before Greatnan's tragic accident, I merely wondered whether she is a member who has returned under a new name or someone who reads the posts but doesn't usually contribute. "Lurking" is not necessarily a pejorative epithet, it means someone who watches from the sidelines and doesn't say a lot.
It is difficult to miss someone you have never known.

Riverwalk Sat 14-Dec-13 15:10:38

youruser could be a friend of Greatnan's from another site. A number of her friends from other forums came this way.

granjura Sat 14-Dec-13 16:33:48

Who cares? Nothing to do with the sentiments behind this return to the thread.

Elegran Sat 14-Dec-13 17:18:07

We all miss Carol. She was one of the backbones of this forum, and even those who did not always agree with her have paid tributes to her and lamented her sudden early death. Granjura, you yourself have been most affected by the loss of this friend, with whom you had many skirmishes in the past.

We also care about one another, and we are interested to hear a new username saying that they miss her too, and wonder what connection they have with her.

To spoil a thread, it has to become the scene of acerbic and unwanted comments. This one is free of such debris, so I don't think we need worry about it staying a suitable tribute.

Ariadne Sat 14-Dec-13 20:52:46

As ever, Elegran, you have expressed it so well. Thank you. I hesitated to come back here, but am glad I did.

whenim64 Sat 14-Dec-13 21:29:21

Thank you, Elegran. Just loving comments and memories are all that are needed here. We continue to miss Carol and chat about her elsewhere, too, but it's good to see her mentioned every now and again.

MiceElf Sat 14-Dec-13 22:13:15

Indeed Whenim. Carol's impact was huge. As long as this forum, those who debated with her and those to whom she sent messages of support are here, we can be sure her spirit will live on in our hearts.

jinglbellrocks Sat 14-Dec-13 22:27:08

I am so sorry this has happened. I never dreamed this could ever be taken amiss. Yes, "yourusername123" is/was me, j08. I just posted under the username I had at the time, in response to Granjura's sad post.

My sentiment expressed on here is, of course, entirely genuine.

Apologies again to anyone I have upset.

merlotgran Sat 14-Dec-13 22:46:05

I don't think you've upset anyone, jingl There seem to be a lot of new IDs popping up and I can't work them out so I'm glad you've cleared up any mystery surrounding your name.

Welcome back tchsmile
