Everyone at Gransnet is absolutely devastated by the news about Carol. She was a unique and inspiring member of our community and her wisdom, wit and tales of adventure will be missed more than we can say. Our hearts go out to her family - who she loved with such pride and passion.

As you know, they have asked that people don't contact them directly but instead leave tributes on the facebook page.

For those who are not on facebook (or who would prefer to add their feelings here), please do so here - we will post a link to this page on facebook so that your tributes will be seen by her family.

Thoughts are with Greatnan's family, it is sure to be especially difficult right now. She is a big miss with all of us here on Gransnet and as usual, Elegran has put it succinctly

Thoughts and prayers with Greatnan's family. I didn't know her personally and disagreed with her on a lot of things but she was always interesting - I was thinking of her yesterday and when I logged on found this thread had started up again.

reading Greatnans posts was always interesting, she was intelligent and her posts were well thought out. She seemed to have a very varied and active lifestyle that belied her real age.I was very sorry to hear about her death, and presume it to be a accident in her much loved French Alps walking/climbing countryside....... and there are worse ways to go, as she loved this kind of lifestyle. I think she will be missed by a lot of people as well as her own family, and I can think of no better tribute than that.flowers

Greatnan has left a large space here on Gransnet. All of us who 'met' her at the beginning and those who came to know her as the forum grew will never really forget her. When I think of her, I see her smiling from the photos taken of her, and also of the places she loved so much.

jingl - welcome back. It's good to see you here with us again.

The reaction to Greatnan's death encapsulates, for me, what Gransnet is all about. Most of us had not met Carol but we felt a connection with her as we do with each other. If anyone had told me that I would 'miss' someone whose comments I read online, I would never have believed it. But I do miss Carol: I'd formed an impression of her, warm and endearing - feisty, of course, but always reaching out to others. It turned out that she looked pretty much how I'd imagined too. It's good to know that others feel this way too, so at this sad time for Carol's family, let's just take a moment to value what this forum means to us! Happy Christmas!

This will be a difficult Christmas for Carol's family but I hope they can find comfort in the memory of happier holidays they shared.
