I am fed up with football on television and Strictly (sorry avid followers); X Factor; Bake Offs variae; Historical Dramas (shock horror). A few more detective stories and comedy programmes would be nice. Please television planners bring back the fun and take away some of the reality from our television viewing.

I think I would watch Strictly if it didn't have judges because the dancing (what I have seen of it) is beautiful.

Me too, Merlot. And the two black girls - they're hilarious! grin

Nonu It had to do with getting PPI monies back and we decided to use the money to replace our very elderly TV. So we bought a rather large, flat screen TV. Its very good or would be if the programmes were worth watching. Hope you enjoyed Elvis, we are recording it. I WON the toss smile

You may well have a good point Dara have to give that some thought. We could start a campaign for Returning to the Radio.

I'm looking forward to the Tudor Farm as I've been reading a lot of Tudor History lately. We both got hooked on NCIS but now have to wait for the next series. I long for some really good, entertaining films - long on humour and short on violence.

Ana gee thanks , where ^ DO^ you get these from ? You always seem to come up with an appropriate one !! ^ Loved it ^, was laughing along with him, he had such an infectious laugh .
I wish I could "blue" so I could post "When Grandma got run over by a reindeer " at C__________ , That is so funny too ! smile

Liz Aren"t the flat screens so very fabulous , they make viewing a whole different experience , worth every penny .
I did enjoy Elvis ^ and ^ my glass * OR* two of red. Wasn"t too sure about Priscilla"s hair though ! See what you think ? smile

I started off by watching a programme about 'the other Elvis' [Costello] which I found a bit boring [sorry Elvis Costello fans] but then found a programme about the 50 greatest childrens programmes which was wonderful. I'd forgotten how brilliant 'Going Live' was [although I did record the last ever on video and I do have a Gordon the Gopher somewhere in the house]. I'd also forgotten about Trevor and Simon [and annoyingly fell asleep before Tiswas came on].

Deedaa I also love NCIS - have all the boxed sets! If you want something long on humour and short on violence do try The Big Bang Theory. Very funny.

DH and I decided we would record everything that we thought we might watch, we then either watch it later or delete after a few minutes if it is the same old unmitigated dross. I have never watched so little TV, I would rather read a book or be on the computer.

By sheer chance I came across a Pete poslethwaite& thora hird drama at some ungodly hour last night/ early hours of the morning. Best thing i'v seen for ages just magnificent. Why oh why are they on so late surely with the mass of channels we have they could have slotted it in at a more reasonable time. It was about a middle aged mans relationship with his mother, it was funny, moving and relevant to anyone over 2030

Oops 30

sunseeker I was taking The Big Bang Theory as a given smile So nice to have something that requires a bit of intelligence from the viewer!

I remember that play Kiora absolutely brilliant! What a wonderful actor Peter Postlethwaite was - always completely riveting whatever he was in.

I have noticed, when I visit my aunt who is in a care home, that the television is very rarely on there either these days. Not on in resident's rooms and not often on in the communal lounge. I usually sit in the lounge with my aunt and nobody is clamouring to have it on. When it is on there will be a murmur of complaint from people who want it turned off.

I'm watching a dvd of The Returned tonight. The problem with having the whole series on one dvd is that it's impossible to do anything but watch them. I thought there were only 6 episodes but it looks as if there might be 8 or nine. And I'd deliberately not borrowed series two of Breaking Bad because I need to get a life away from the telly.

I have been watching Citizen Khan. Hilarious! Two and a half men is one of my favourites;a bit rude, but still funny. Then theres Downton Abbey.Cant wait till Sunday evening.Countryfile, Question Time, There was a film on the other afternoon-I recorded it Analyse this; Robert De Niro, one of my favourite actors. Some swearing, but very funny! Cant think of anything else I might watch, I record most stuff then skip through the ads.Since I retired, don't get much time to watch Telly.

liminetta Sat 09-Nov-13 22:20:18

Oh, yes; and The Big Bang Theory. My granddaughter showed me that one!grin

I love Gogglebox too, Ana and Merlotgran. Some of the comments are hilarious. The episode where the posh couple were discussing Lady Mary's arms (or lack of) still cracks me up when I think about it. I'm also enjoying Downton - perfect Sunday comfort fare - and at the other end of the scale, Ripper Street. I'm finding Corrie a bit hit and miss these days, but remain ever faithful, and my daughter and I are the only people I know who are really, really looking forward to the return of the doctor....
