Wet again here. It is a Bank Holiday for Remembrance Day (World War 1 only).

kittylester Mon 11-Nov-13 07:50:11

Surprisingly, it's grey and drizzly here! sunshine

Nelliemoser Mon 11-Nov-13 07:55:33

Grey and rainy in cheshire.

Brendawymms Mon 11-Nov-13 08:12:48

Grey, damp and even greyer, if that's a word, in East Sussex. The water table in the garden is up to grass level even with the land drain we have across it.! No more rain please.

PRINTMISS Mon 11-Nov-13 08:17:20

Good morning to you all, grey and damp here - well, it is November! Freezer not working, so a call to the insurance company on the list of tasks for the day, left my credit card at the Theatre on Saturday, so will have to go to collect that (scatter-brain). Enjoy your days.

gillybob Mon 11-Nov-13 08:26:26

Good morning from a rather damp and grey North East coast. Off to work. Have a good day everyone. smile

Charleygirl Mon 11-Nov-13 08:54:21

Grey and miserable here. More rain is forecast-cannot wait. At least it is not as cold as yesterday.

AlieOxon Mon 11-Nov-13 08:56:32

Grey and drippy here. Gardener probably not coming.
If he does we might go and get some donkey poo. (Island Farm sanctuary not far away.)
If not I have another appropriate idea - search to see if I can find any more about my grandfather's little brother Cecil in WW1.....

MrsM Mon 11-Nov-13 09:09:12

Eugh, it's wet and nasty after yesterday's beautiful weather. Though it's forecast to be gone by this afternoon

So, one of those guilty retirement pleasures ... Gravity 3D at the 10.30am showing - how decadent is that?! smile

Enjoy your day, everyone

gracesmum Mon 11-Nov-13 09:26:19

Good morning - as you say it is November!! Yesterday was lovely though so hunkering down not a bad prospect! Good luck with the freezer insurance and getting your credit card back Printmiss (are you sure DH hasn't just hidden it? grin )

annodomini Mon 11-Nov-13 09:29:23

Yuk, it's the kind of weather that gets right into my joints.

kittylester Mon 11-Nov-13 09:32:38

Last time my freezer died Printmiss, they wanted me to list exactly what was in it and the cost. shock DH had taken all the stuff to the dump in black bags. Considering that I'd made most of it myself (lasagnes, shepherd's pies, chillis, casseroles etc) that was nigh on impossible. My butcher offered to do me a receipt for a freezer full of frozen fillet steak but I didn't take him up on it - though I was sorely tempted. angry

annodomini Mon 11-Nov-13 10:06:39

What did you do, Kitty? I hope that never happens to me, when I think of some of the junk in my freezer!

Agus Mon 11-Nov-13 10:15:37

Dreich here in Central Scotland.. Waited 3 weeks for roofers who arrived at 8.30 only to tell me it was too wet to repair the roof! Sweary word, sweary word.

gillybob Mon 11-Nov-13 10:17:13

A similar thing happened to me a few years back kittylester and printmiss. We had a major electrical fault in the street which resulted in no power for over 48 hours. I tried to claim on insurance and was told we had a £200 excess. I was very honest with my list of what we had in the freezer (fishfingers, mince, lasagne, ice cream etc) and as a result got nothing at all!

Mamie Mon 11-Nov-13 10:22:00

Well it rained here at 11am for the Armistice ceremony, but seems to be sunny in Paris. I was trying to watch the ceremony at the Menin Gate, which was surely at 11am here? Perhaps they are delaying showing it until 11am in England?

ninathenana Mon 11-Nov-13 11:08:44

Morning all.
Grey, windy but dry here in Kent.
Phone call from DD 8.30 this morning. The washing machine in her rented house has died. 'Can I come and do my washing mum' Wonder how long it's going to take the agents to sort that hmm

NfkDumpling Mon 11-Nov-13 12:25:40

Gosh, it's lunch time already! After a wonderful family weekend, I have just managed to get the sheets off the beds and in the wash. Then collapsed with coffee and cross word. Now girding up to face the Hoover. Is it just me that gets so knackered after only three days with toddlers? I brought up three full time for goodness sake!

AlieOxon Mon 11-Nov-13 12:54:53

Got a quote for gutter repairs for £3,350 just now.
I've got to the point of thinking make it 3K and you can have the job
....but it's a lot....

The other builder just came and didn't even measure, so i know he doesn't want it. Same with the one who started on 5K.
But the one who disappeared because of too much work, said under £1500.
Oh. Maybe that's why he's so busy!

Oh dear.
I must get another estimate!

Yes allie in some boroughs the trading standards dept has a list of approved traders e.g www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/cms/content/buy-confidence
Also sometimes local U3As can be a source of recommendations.
Also local letting agents can be a very good source of recommendations - they will have some people they use regularly at a good rate and if you say "I got your number from XX letting agents" they will be a bit more careful (because they don't want to lose the steady work from the letting agent)

AlieOxon Mon 11-Nov-13 13:31:05

Thanks Jess - I have copied a list of 9 builders some of whom will be possible. Will look at websites next.

Morning Afternoon all. I was feeling worn out by eight o'clock this morning – teenager in the house syndrome. Still managed to mop out a problem gutter though. This job involved a mop (obv!), mop bucket, pallet base (so the 'tin can' woodshed roof would take my weight), ladder + plus trek up hill to get it from behind the archery target boss (have asked mrbags to bring it back down in future, please hmm), plastic brush and dustpan, hose, waterproof troosers, moving ladder to this end and that end of said gutter...

...yeah well, yous'll be getting the idea by now. Feeling satisfied with my determination at getting the job done. Now cranking up more determination and gritting teeth in readiness for this evening's inevitable teenager episode (warnings were disregarded; it won't be with impunity).

Help me gird my loins, please, gransnetters!

thatbags Mon 11-Nov-13 13:37:22

Good luck with your gutters, alie.

AlieOxon Mon 11-Nov-13 13:40:38

wine bags - to help gird.
