An internet friend sent me this over Christmas......... tchsmile

The computer swallowed Grandpa,
Yes, honestly it’s true!
He pressed 'control and 'enter'
And disappeared from view.
It devoured him completely,
The thought just makes me squirm.
He must have caught a virus
Or been eaten by a worm.
I've searched through the recycle bin
And files of every kind;
I've even used the Internet,
But nothing did I find.
In desperation, I asked Mr. Google
My searches to refine.
The reply from him was negative,
Not a thing was found 'online.'
So, if inside your 'Inbox,'
My Grandpa you should see,
Please 'Copy, Scan' and 'Paste' him,
And send him back to me.

This is a tribute to all the Grandpas & Grandmas who have been fearless
and learned to use the Computer.........

They are the greatest!!!

Are we over thinking this? confused

It's all a bit 'how many gransnetters does it take to analyse a joke?' Don't ya think?

Ana Mon 30-Dec-13 19:46:58

I think that you either like it and find it funny, as most of the posters on this thread do, or you don't much care for it and find it vaguely patronising, as I do.

Both opinions are valid!

jinglbellrocks Mon 30-Dec-13 20:09:06

I think too many older people accept "harmless" ageism.

I will shut up now. smile

Soutra Mon 30-Dec-13 20:28:46

tchhmm??

Galen Mon 30-Dec-13 20:32:15

eglantine I'll believe that when I don't see it!

dollie Mon 30-Dec-13 20:52:54

@ jinglebellrocks
its not that older people accept ''harmless'' ageism were just not obsessed with it like you..

jinglbellrocks Mon 30-Dec-13 21:01:15

Ok. smile

Nelliemoser Mon 30-Dec-13 21:26:06

I do hope who ever thought about that being patronising was joking!

There is a time and place for everything. If we start getting worried about too many things being a tad patronising we would never have any jokes at all. Most humour tends to rely a little on this stuff.

We need to remember Greatnan and her supply of jokes of all kinds.
She was very sharp about such things as not being patronising or sexist in discussions but she could see the funny side of things and liked a joke.

Just look at her "Chat forum" Just jokes thread.

Ana Mon 30-Dec-13 21:31:23

Everyone's sense of humour is different, Nelliemoser.

Ana Mon 30-Dec-13 21:37:12

Actually, that was wrong! I meant that not everyone's sense of humour is necessarily the same...hmm

Soutra Mon 30-Dec-13 22:04:10

But it is a heck of a put down to be dismissed as patronising. Might stop a person risking their head above the parapet another time. But as you say, a sense of humour is subjective and one person's witty epithet may be another's personal abuse.

Nonu Mon 30-Dec-13 22:08:28

Each to their own, what suits one does not suit another !
We all allowed our own point of view IMO

Tegan Mon 30-Dec-13 22:22:04

Isn't it patronising to assume someone is feeling patronised [?].

jinglbellrocks Mon 30-Dec-13 22:30:03

Pardon? confused

Soutra Mon 30-Dec-13 22:30:57

Didn't last long jingl tchgrin!!

Flowerofthewest Mon 30-Dec-13 22:31:19

No, jingle of course not or the grandpa would be about 200. I meant that it is good for anyone to laugh at themselves sometimes.

Flowerofthewest Mon 30-Dec-13 22:36:06

I have more pressing thing to worry about at the moment. whatever agree Tegan and nightowl

Ana Mon 30-Dec-13 22:36:53

Of course it is, Flowerofthewest - but most of us are a bit more computer-savvy than the Grandpa in the verse!

Ana Mon 30-Dec-13 22:38:38

And yes, haven't we all...

Tegan Mon 30-Dec-13 22:40:16

Not me. Can't even use a mobile phone properly sad. Or record anything from the telly sadsad.

jinglbellrocks Mon 30-Dec-13 22:41:21

Why would he be two hundred? I think I'm losing this particular plot. confused #whatsnew

Flowerofthewest Mon 30-Dec-13 22:44:18

Well if the grandpa was old enough to be a graaaaaaaaaaaaa Oh I don't know I think I have lost the plot along with you jingle confused

Flowerofthewest Mon 30-Dec-13 22:45:50

We probably have, yes. poor poor little grandpa. I bet he wished he had never gone on the b.. computer

Galen Mon 30-Dec-13 23:44:45

I've only just read this thread, it's made me smile, so thanks. I didn't find it patronising Soutra, the verse made me feel slightly guilty that I am not that interested in technology. I don't want to be left behind, and can do emails, smurf the net etc, and 2 years ago, I could upload and send photographs. It's so long since I did it, I now fear they'll disappear into cyber space. Maybe Grandpa would find them, and bring them home to me.
