I have discovered - not quite a loo brush thread!!

Elegran re. your post of 13.58, I read somewhere that Jackie Kennedy/Onassis insisted on her sheets being changed every time, even is she had only gone for a quick nap, but somehow I don't think it was her that posted that on here.

I am an OUT blanket user and can't stand duvets - I swelter in them....

But what a lot of work some people give themselves...or, in Jackie's case, the servants....

I thought it was Mme Chiang Kai shek who liked silk sheets and wanted them changed after a nap. She stayed at the White House and was disliked for this. I'm staying at DDs flat and of the fifteen pillows in the place there is not one. One bed with matching pillows. It's extraordinary. I bring bed linen or pillows every time and they are eaten by the washer. We have blankets at home and I put a flat sheet between me and the duvet so we can be safely tucked in

When I was married I always used a top sheet under the duvet. If tucked in securely there was no battle for the bedding and I always stayed covered.
I have not used a duvet since the start of the menopause 17 years ago, still sleep with only starched (and ironed!) cotton sheets with no other covers. I change pillow slips frequently, and have two pillows, so they are switched around and /or turned upside down for a clean side to lie on each night. I also turn the top sheet head-to-foot to feel crisper between washes.

I never use a top sheet, it defies what having a duvet is all about, a loose comfy thing on top that you can throw on and off if needed. If you get hot, you can use a Summer tog rating duvet all year round.Maybe some people use them because a sheet is easier to wash/iron than a duvet cover?

I change the duvet cover the same time as I change the sheets.

I change things when I find I've got room to dry eveything. At the moment I'm washing all the bed linen and towels [cause I'm in 'the zone']. I often fall asleep on the sofa watching telly and wake up the next morning, anyway . Since I've retired I don't have any rules for anything [mind you, didn't have many before that]. It is nice getting into a lovely clean bed, though.

Every other Sunday, I change the bedding, (duvet and fitted bottom sheet).

I wear t shirt nighties in bed, two per week, and pjs for watching tv, changed on Sundays!

I've just stopped ironing the pillowcases and duvet, because I have a very warm airing cupboard, and if I fold them and smooth them, they look ironed anyway!

I am in a rut as usual a creature of habit!

Beats me why you need three changes of nightwear a week, Lona! I make do with one nightie a week (slut that I obviously am...)

I cannot sleep uncovered, however hot it is and use a 4 tog duvet all year round. There's no heat on in my bedroom.
Now for the slut's confession: I share my bed with 2 small dogs and 2 cats. To offset the grubby paws and hair I do change the bedding about twice weekly and I iron pillow cases.

I have seriously thought about doing an 'Alice in Wonderland' when I can't be bothered to change the sheets and move from bed to bed. I could make it last 7 weeks (if I used both sides of the double beds) and then have one huge sheet washing session every couple of months! I love the smell of clean bed linen and always iron the pillow cases but rarely the duvet cover and never the fitted sheet. As for pj's - what are they? I sleep b*****k naked

I have discovered the hedonistic option of sleeping under micro fibre blankets, without sheets. Why should newborns get all the cosseting. Pretty hot-flush friendly and very cosy and light. They are washable! And dry easily.

There is a very sound reason for using a top sheet and that is that you don't need to wash the duvet cover so often.

Getting a large duvet cover on and off a duvet is a devil of a job. Particularly as I have a king size duvet.

Fortunately I have Kate to do this. I certainly couldn't change my king sized duvet with my shoulder at the moment.
I have a silk bottom sheet and pillow slip and wear satin nightdresses. This is because otherwise I can't turn very easily.

Clean duvet and bottom sheet every week ! May stretch to 8 or 9 days but.no longer! Love fresh sheets. Never use top sheet.

Hate it when stay in hotels and they tuck duvet in bottom!

Galen A friend bought silk nightware for her honeymoon, which was spent in a hotel with satin sheets. She kept falling out of bed.

Summer duvet all the year round, fitted bottom sheet and no top sheet. DH throws off duvet as soon as he goes to sleep so hardly gets any use. Change pillow cases frequently because of close contact with face and hair.

My household are all used to humouring my bedlinen fetish. Clean bedding every week or the sky might fall down. My two Afghan boys think this is what all British women do.
For their birthdays they got posh PJ's because I couldn't bear seeing them sleep in the same T shirt they'd worn all day and they're so pleased with them I was just asked to buy extras. Now they often get changed into their PJ's as soon as they get in from school.
