For some reason [lack of dedication to ironing blush] last week I ended up changing the pillowcases on a different day from the quilt with the result that it felt as though I was getting into new sheets TWICE. How cool is that? I might do that every time I change the bed. grin

Kitty I always change the pillowcases halfway through the week, it's much nicer and fresher [stands to reason really, since we have our heads/faces on them] I also change the pillowcases a lot more than that if one of us has a cold.

janerowena Tue 21-Jan-14 12:06:30

Oh dear, are you meant to iron them? grin

rosesarered Tue 21-Jan-14 12:08:45

janerowena shock

Anne58 Tue 21-Jan-14 12:09:00

No, janerowena that is just malicious propaganda put about by a recently formed front line alliance pact between the Stepford Wives and UKIP.

Grannyknot Tue 21-Jan-14 12:10:32

I was in Lidl at the weekend and bought a cordless iron for £14.00!

It's revolutionised my life. I've taken up ironing! And started with pillowcases of course grin

I'm wearing something to work today that I haven't worn for almost a year because it needed ironing. So my colleagues have been saying "Is that new?" Another reason not to iron things all the time ROTFL.

rosesarered Tue 21-Jan-14 12:12:30

GRRRRRR.... Phoenix you have found us out, we must have a spy in our midst! But it's a pact between Stepford Wives and the OCD ironing club so you were only half right. grin

Anne58 Tue 21-Jan-14 12:30:09

Damn, I should have remembered that UKIP are the ones involved in the ifgaypeopledon'tcleanbehindthefridgewearealldoomed campaign.

durhamjen Tue 21-Jan-14 12:34:45

Definitely UKIP. Farage has been in trouble for claiming that mothers are worth less than men to the City because they take time off for ironing their pillowcases - sorry, for having kids. He thinks that young able women who are prepared to sacrifice the family life - i.e. ironing the pillowcases - and stick with their careers do as well as, if not better than, men.
How many votes do you think that lost him?
That was before he was hit over the head by an animal rights protester.

rosesarered Tue 21-Jan-14 12:39:55

Perhaps the knock to the head will work wonders for him, I shall certainly volunteer to do the same for the rest of UKIP if they think it will help to clarify their policies. Now, 'just line up, people, you know this is good for you' etc.

Moved into the flat in August. Ironing board been out once. (are you impressed!) Have just disentangled cylinder Dyson from walking pole and left it blocking the hall like a reproachful, stranded plesiosaur. Am telling myself that the exercise will be good for me (but but but, I just went for a lovely walk... including a hill and I will do my exercises before making tea, honest...) Have discovered (after having a cleaner for 10 years), that carpets do eventually get to look grubby if you don't clean them for a month or so...
Wondering if act of god might strike me down for flying in the face of nature re a woman's domestic duties?

JessM Tue 21-Jan-14 12:59:39

Seven minutes have passed. Shamed myself into doing the deed. Just reflecting on another lesson of life is that if you wait until a cleaning job really needs doing then it is so much more satisfying because you can see the difference How cool is that?

annodomini Tue 21-Jan-14 13:16:41

I always knew there must be a reason for not doing chores too often. Thanks, Jess.grin

Nelliemoser Tue 21-Jan-14 13:45:54

Oh dear! Are you meant to change them weekly!

durhamjen Tue 21-Jan-14 13:49:31

That was a discussion on Radio Newcastle this morning. Some people thought it acceptable to change the bedding every two months, Nellie, so do not worry.

sunseeker Tue 21-Jan-14 13:49:57

I have quoted Quentin Crisp on here before when he said that after 3 years (I think) the dust doesn't get any worse!!

kittylester Tue 21-Jan-14 13:53:31

Errrr, who mentioned changing beds weekly - not me! I just said the it happened last week, which could be only the first time I changed the bed since Christmas (not saying which Christmas) Having made my discovery, I can change the bed even less often now!!

Elegran Tue 21-Jan-14 13:58:36

Someone on here once said that they changed their sheets daily. I can't remember who, sorry. It was just after someone else had said how pleasant it was to get into a bed with fresh sheets.

At the time I wondered where they hung all those sheets to dry, (or was the tumble-dryer on non-stop) and whether they also ironed them.

Then I realised that it is not always necessary to take everything posted on the forum as absolute literal truth.

Nelliemoser Tue 21-Jan-14 13:59:33

durhamjen I don't really think its acceptable! I just CBA to change them every week. grin

kittylester Tue 21-Jan-14 14:02:31

When I win the lottery I will pay someone to come and change my sheets daily and take the pesky things away to wash and iron them. grin

tanith Tue 21-Jan-14 14:13:04

So much mention of changing sheets, I'm wondering if I am the only one that changes the sheet. I only have a bottom sheet with the duvet on top.. but I know my ex mil always puts two sheets on the bed and uses the duvet like a blanket on top of them.

Who uses a top sheet under the duvet and why? or have I been doing it wrong for the last 25yrs grin and my mil was right all the timeshock

kittylester Tue 21-Jan-14 14:15:17

I hate top sheets with duvets - it's far to easy to get tangled up. grin

sunseeker Tue 21-Jan-14 14:24:46

I always use a top sheet with the duvet - just doesn't feel right without one. Now I am beginning to wonder if I am odd (please don't answer that grin)

Grannyknot Tue 21-Jan-14 14:39:20

tanith I think I posted this before - husband always insisted on a top sheet with the duvet. Just recently, after 30 odd years, I ditched it and it cut my washing down noticably. When he grumbled, I said "It's my turn" (to have the bedding how I want it) grin

kitty 'clean sheets night' is my best. I love clean sheets. I think it reminds me of when I was little and we were ill, my mother would change the bed sheets and say "That will help you feel better". And it did!

nannyfran Tue 21-Jan-14 14:52:41

I went back to sheets and blankets some time ago as I seem to get hot and cold during the night. You can throw off 1 blanket if hot, but a duvet is either on or off and DH always seemed to get the lion's share!
I give visitors duvets as most people prefer them, and they get 2 sheets.
Anyone else a secret blanket user?
