Goose Thu 30-Jan-14 00:18:31

Hello…anyone else still awake after 12.00? I'm fully awake now

Frannygranny Thu 30-Jan-14 00:22:04

Yes, been in bed most of the day with a chesty virus thing and now can't get to sleep. I suppose it would help if I put my ipad away!!

Frannygranny Thu 30-Jan-14 00:22:58

What made you wake up, goose?

Granny23 Thu 30-Jan-14 00:25:47

Yes, I am still up as is usual at this time. sad

Goose Thu 30-Jan-14 00:37:39

g'evening (goodnight?) everyone. I've been out tonight and got back very late but I'd be awake this time of night if I was going out or sitting here trawling through my laptop. I know all the neighbours are fast asleep (too young, can't keep the pace up!)

Goose Thu 30-Jan-14 00:42:36

It's one of the things I find worrying - I can be sat here at 10-00pm (wide awake) but if I go out and look down the street, the whole place is dead, they've all gone to bed (probably hours ago). New Years Eve at 12.00 I was the only person outside letting the New Year in and the Od Year out…the rest of the street was asleep, surely it should be the other way roundhmm

Still awake here too! Not the least bit sleepy so I thought I might as well go the whole hog and have a hot chocolate. Like that's really going to help me get to sleep!!!

Hope your jumpy legs aren't too bad tonight Granny 23 sad

I'm still here. Just about to make some sandwiches for tomorrow's lunch. We have to go out for the day tomorrow - not far, just over the Bridge into that part of South Gloucestershire that the locals call CUBA (the Counties that Used to Be Avon"), and since we are a bit skint at the moment we will take lunch with us.

Goose Thu 30-Jan-14 01:02:15

Agus…Chocolate's ALWAYS goodgrin I find second best is Licorice Allsorts! I agree with your Granny 23 sentiments - jumpy legs must be hell to put up with through the night

Goose Thu 30-Jan-14 01:07:22

lefthanded. I have a sneaky love of pre-packed lunches…somehow, after a few hours of sitting around with nothing to do, sandwiches take on a 'mellow' kind of taste - the bread gets a tinsy bit soggy (especially if eggs are involved) and the sandwich itself tastes more nourishing and wholesome - and think of how much money you save making 'em yourself, plus they always seem more posh if they're cut into triangles rather than rectangles!

Goose Our sandwiches will definitely be meat - pastrami for me, and roast beef for DW who doesn't like anything spicy. We'll take a flask of boiling water and the necessary for making a cup of coffee too. It certainly helps to make it a cheap day out. All we need now i ssome decent weather.

Tegan Thu 30-Jan-14 01:15:34

...still Spring cleaning and watching a prigramme about porcelaine while I'm doing it. Just nipped up to pooter room to check out Bombay Bicycle Club on utube.

Goose Thu 30-Jan-14 01:17:00

decent weather should come cheap toosmile. Writing this makes me feel nostalgic about how long it's been since I last 'did' a picnic….

Goose Thu 30-Jan-14 01:20:54

Goose Thu 30-Jan-14 01:24:26

I'm going to have another go at trying to get to sleep - I've got to be up at 7.00m…is it worth going to bed….AAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHangry

Tegan Thu 30-Jan-14 01:41:32

Hello Goose, you say you are nostalgic for a picnic. I too love picnics but you can still do them on a lesser scale than the olden days when it included sitting on the ground on a pretty table cloth. Nowadays mine comprise an apple (all chopped up and ready to eat), a sarnie of my choosing, a small piece of cake or biscuit and that's it.

So many places offer take away tea or coffee you don't even need to take a flask with you. If you live near a Waitrose if you get one of their My Waitrose cards you can get a FREE coffee every day.

Places to eat this said picnic range from a park bench, in the car, on the bus, or even in your own garden. Enjoy.

Goose Thu 30-Jan-14 09:25:52

NanKate No picnic-ing today - but maybe will do when/if the sun ever shines againsunshinecupcakebrew

lefthanded Thu 30-Jan-14 09:38:23

Bitterly cold this morning, but we have to go out so it won't affect our plans. The "picnic" is all packed and ready to go. I expect we will be eating it in the car - parked somewhere with the engine running and the heated seats turned on smile

After lunch we are going to see an old friend who lost his wife suddenly on Boxing Day. We haven't been able to speak to him since the funeral so this is likely to be a rather poignant meeting.
