Inspired by something just heard on Radio 4, about James Joyce.

"One day I will read Ulysses" (There are probably lots of you that already have, but I haven't blush )

Any body interested on coming and sharing?

grannyactivist Sat 01-Feb-14 00:35:44

Oh you temptress Galen. wink
Yes, one day I will be in Northern Norway and hope to see the Northern Lights. I also hope that one day I will get to visit the Lofoten Islands. Not this year though as I've already got lots of holidays planned.

This is supposed to be a spectacular display, which is why I want to go this year. The one I'm looking at is Southampton to Southampton so no flying!

Anne58 Sat 01-Feb-14 00:49:34

Galen , Southampton to Southampton makes it sound like a quick trip around the port, in and out! grin

Galen Sat 01-Feb-14 00:51:16

Goes up to N Norway in between!

Galen Sat 01-Feb-14 00:54:06

Seriously, the solar activity this winter is supposed to make the lights very spectacular.
I'm sure Bags can explain it all , or find articles that do!
That's why I really want to go this winter!
To hell with overdrafts I'm going to Go !

Gally Sat 01-Feb-14 02:36:40

Good on you Galen, can I come too!

One day I will get out the easel and paints which the late Mr.G was given when he retired and are still unused and will try my hand at something 'artistical'.
One day, I will immerse myself in France and improve my french.
One day, I will actually complete something I have started.
One day, I will make a decision without faffing about for so long that the decision becomes obsolete - or should that be the question?
One day, I will be dead and then all the above won't matter but I will die not having achieved very much....... confused

I had to read "Ulysses"'because Joyce was a set author for my English degree. But I could not read "Finnegans Wake" which is "comic prose". Huh!

DD2 and her DH are off to Iceland to see the northern Lights (among other things) in mid February. The trip was our wedding present to them so is a slightly belated wedding present.

I have already ticked 'seeing the Northern Lights' off my bucket list as I saw them, in a gap in the hills, not two miles from home when I was coming home from Stirling late one night. Looked like dancing waters in the sky - pink, silver and purple. Watched for a bit then rushed home to send DH along the road to see them.

One day I will finish the waistcoat I started knitting for Mr Iam 4 years ago. One day my young dog will Behave.
One day I will enjoy a tour of northern europe.
But today - I will enjoy everything that comes my way and thank heavens/the universe and everything, that I'm alive and well.

kittylester Sat 01-Feb-14 09:12:30

One day I will be organised! I hope!

ginny Sat 01-Feb-14 09:22:16

ana I agree there are often other things that get in the way of doing it now. I suppose what I should have said is that even if it seems an impossible aim , we can make a start on doing it. Maybe by saving the money or organising our lives gradually to enable us. Small things e.g. reading a book, finishing a project, are just a matter of sorting ourselves out. I'm trying hard to take this approach. hmm

annodomini Sat 01-Feb-14 09:42:16

One day I will go down to Trailfinders in Manchester and book for that Alaskan cruise.

Brendawymms Sat 01-Feb-14 09:54:22

One day I will have nothing to worry about and then I will worry about not having anything to worry about.

chloe1984 Sat 01-Feb-14 10:45:28

One day we will sell the house and all our possessions and buy a camper van and travel all over Europe . We will wash whenever ,eat whenever and never , ever worry about our children / grandchildren again. One day I will also throw out my comfy undies and buy outrageous flimsies and wear them on my travels. But for the moment I have to go to the library and Waitrose!

LizG Sat 01-Feb-14 12:52:46

chloe I definitely saw a flying pig hurtle past your window. I believed every word until you said one day you wouldn't worry about your children or grandchildren - 'I don't believe you ' smile. the campervan would be good though, how about a Winnebago?

KatyK Sat 01-Feb-14 12:57:54

One day I will -

get something published - anything
stop constantly worrying
accept myself as I am and not as I think I should be
be the same shape as I was in 1969 grin

Galen Sat 01-Feb-14 13:46:51

Brenda that's what I'm like all the time! It's very worrying!

Iam64 Sat 01-Feb-14 13:46:54

Hey - what about a gransnet winnebago - I really wanted a mobile home in which to tour europe, but the cost of buying, maintaining, insuring etc was prohibitive. So - what about the great retirement gransnet winnebego> a bit like a time share I suppose.

Nelliemoser Sat 01-Feb-14 14:18:02

It's "Trying to see" the northern lights I am afraid they cannot be summoned to order. It depends on the sun, unless they have a private hot line to heaven.

Nonnie Sat 01-Feb-14 14:34:35

Katy many years ago we saw T TO in rep and it was so look boring!

Nonnie Sat 01-Feb-14 14:38:35

Galen When you are at Amritsar go the extra bit and watch the evening ceremony at the border between India and Pakistan, it is well worth watching . If you take your passport you go in the VIP area. Taj Mahal is even better than you expect.

Galen Sat 01-Feb-14 15:04:59

I doubt I'll ever get there!

chloe1984 Sat 01-Feb-14 15:07:22

Am always happy to share so count me in on the gransnet Winnebago trip of a lifetime. Can we please ensure we visit Paris for my scandalous undies, then Italy for the pasta and perhaps Lake Coma so we can perhaps track down George Clooney in his villa. After that am happy to go wherever the fancy takes us.

Nonu Sat 01-Feb-14 15:10:29
