I mean that the warnings about that are not a hoax, though the offer to fox the non-existent virus is. (There is no way they can tell what is on your computer - or fix it without having access to it)

How about the "We have discovered that your computer has a virus, but we can cure it for you" phone call?

Hoax Slayer is a great site. Look on there for anything that sounds like a scam or an unlikely sounding offer.

Thanks for the warning, I don't make phone calls to areas outside my own and Bristol unless I know the company or person I am ringing.

I've just had an email about the following phone code scams.
Scam phone code - Do Not DIAL AREA CODE 0809,0284 and 0876 from the UK.
I've looked this up on the internet and there might be some truth in the warning, so it probably pays to be vigilant.
