Although I can understand that this is disappointing for the person in question, I think there are far more important campaigns that need support and if too many petitions are started of a relatively trivial nature, I think this devalues petitions in general.

If they started painting them green, I would be confused and think I was in Ireland.(where they often still have the royal logo, but never E2 obviously!)
The ones round here, particularly the little ones, are going green anyway as it is so long since they were painted.
Edward the V111 - surprised he stuck around long enough to have any.

Nice facts. durhamjen! Paint that box post office! grin

Does that mean the rest are Elizabeth 11?
So at the present rate of winning gold at the olympics it would take over a thousand years to paint them all gold, providing that an olympic gold medal winner lived in every village where there is a post box.
Your eventually is a long way away, Elegran.

There are approximately 112,000 post-boxes in the UK (and, if you are really interested - only 107 of them bear the royal cipher of Edward VIII).

Post boxes do need painting so why not paint them gold?
Statistics for the olympics. British athletes have won 236 golds in the summer olympics, and 10 golds in the winter olympics.
We have never hosted the winter olympics, therefore nobody would have a gold postbox painted in their village.
How many postboxes are there in this country? Anyone know?

As the government is intent on selling off the post office, there is no reason for them to be red. I'd quite like a green one in my village.

Elegran Mon 24-Feb-14 16:59:31

Eventually there would be no plain red ones.

JessM Mon 24-Feb-14 16:50:37

Quite jings Otherwise they would be painting post boxes for all the olympic gold medal winners for ever.

Oh that's daft. The gold post boxes were just for the games that were held here.

Really silly. hmm

Signed it last week, Cressida. Not really interested in Olympics, but I do not like injustice.

Apparently the Royal Mail are not intending to paint a gold post box in Lizzie Yarnold's home town. A petition has been set up to try and get them to change their minds.

If you think she should have a gold post box you can sign the petition here
