Soop's welcoming kitchen!

Oh help Soop. Sounds as if a dozen machines might be needed. But living in such a beautiful area makes it easy to put up with for a while I'm sure.

Don't know what is worse, midges versus mosquitoes which is what we had to contend with living in France!

We had a plug in small zapper type machine (it had a blue light which attracted them) outside Dusty and it was very effective plus plug ins with tablets inside. A new tablet was put into the plug every evening and binned in the morning.

Scottish midges trump mosquitoes of no matter what nationality when it comes to being a nuisance. But at least they don't carry malaria, yellow fever or dengue.

Soop, I`ve only ever been to Kintyre in July and August, and we must have been very lucky, because we saw not a single midgie, although they ate me alive at Loch Lomond a few years ago, that was in July. Bags, do you wear one of those hats with the net over? I was tempted to buy one at Loch Lomond, but then didn`t.

Yes, numberplease, I have a head net but last year I bought a midge jacket. It's like a kagoul but made of midge-proof net and it includes a hood and a zip-uppable face cover. I find it more comfortable than the head net and it stops the blighters getting down your neck and up your sleeves.

bags MacSporran may wish to make note of your midge jacket. He ventured outside earlier today, needed to finish some painting of window sills. Was forced to abandon the task. Midges everywhere...bitten to a frazzle!

Now then, because I love you lot and know that you won't take the micky, I shall tell you what happened this morning. I arrived at my pal's house to attend to her pile of ironing. I had a painting of a wee dog to give her. As she looked at it, she sighed, 'Oh, this is Fergus...and it's beautiful...' I replied, 'No, it's Lachlan...' After a very long moment of being totally bemused, I saw that she was right... I had painted (from a photo) the wrong member of her Pomeranian family. Heck! Anyway, she's thrilled and wants to frame said portrait of Fergus. I now need to go back to the drawing board and do my best with a likeness of Lachlan.

Family have been trying to send pictures of the new arrival in email from an Ipad to my PC, but it isn't working. I should see my youngest grandson tomorrow with pics, but meanwhile has anyone any idea why they don't arrive?

Seen midges only once in Scotland, in the hills above Gatehouse-of-Fleet (many summer holidays and no midges by the sea).
Horrifying! We didn't get out of the car, but some of them got in!

The West Highland midges go right down to the water's edge, Alie. I remember clambering onto the rocks near Arisaig to try to escape them, and failing - coming to the conclusion that the only place to avoid them was under water. Of course, if they evolve as swimmers...

...back from a brief conflab with MacSporran. Am having difficulty painting a Pomeranian...two on the board at present. The deceased dog's photo is far too vague. I cannot work out what's going on around the muzzle. Dog also has it's eyes closed... Onward and all that...

By the way...kitchen extension being extended yet again. We shall need to move in to it very soon. Shall we call it soop's kitcheners? I rather like that name. Was it suggested by Agus or Bella? Cannot recall at the moment. I've a bottle of bubbly put to one side...whoever it is that cuts the tartan ribbon will have the first glass.

In the meantime, I have a painting waiting.

It is no time since the kitchen was last extended- do we talk too much?!
