It's a bit disconcerting to think of what is actually undereath our houses isn't it?We are always hoping to strike gold, whenever we dig a new flowerbed.Our house is built on what used to be the centre of the old medieval village, then it was cleared and became the garden/stable yard of a large Georgian mansion, then in the 1940's it became a small USA camp[for airmen].Finally built on in the early 1960's as a small close of houses.So far, we have found a huge amount of concrete [from the USA base days] and one very old horseshoe.

The town nearby to us is built on a massive sunken glacial bed. I just hope that doesn't disappear along with my best friend and son who works in the town. .

There is a housing estate road ?late 60s early 70s, just up from us which is built on unstable sand with an underground stream meandering through.

In the 27 years we have lived here it has developed numerous deep holes where the road surface has collapsed. It does disrupt the utility infrastructure.
We live with very old uncharted coal mines about two miles south and old salt workings about a mile to the north. If one Geo-hazard don't get you the other one might. At least its not limestone sink holes.
