Burnham to tell schools in England to adapt teaching to local business needs- what do you think?
I check and delete mine every day
how do you move them to folders ?
i use gmail, and find it difficult to use since they changed the layout look.
Every time I read my emails I completely delete unwanted ones, place important ones in relevant folders, and unsubscribe from others. That way I never have more than one page-full in my inbox.
I have a number of email accounts - some purely for business. I do tend to get inundated with emails from any auction house I have ever bid with or store I have ever bought from. I just create a filter for their ads to go into the junk file.
Each site I sell on has a different email address. Some customers can be pretty dense and send me a message like "where is my package" without stating what they bought or when or where they purchased it. Others are too helpless to paste a tracking number into a box. The world is full of lazy people.
I have a set of responses which are intended to answer the most common queries and I just copy and paste them in. It saves me getting involved with traumas.
The emails I dont want to answer get booted back as a "mail tranmission error" with all the garbage from a real rejected email.
I hadn’t noticed this was an old thread either.
But I’m interested to know others experience with unsubscribing to spam.
Does clicking on it and entering your e mail address to unsubscribe work? Or does it generate even more junk?
I’ve got a junk folder but some days there are lots more than others
Oh, I can't stand an untidy email inbox. I check our joint one and my own personal one several times a day, delete any unwanted ones or spam (not that we get a great deal of that) and also empty the deleted box on a daily basis too.
😁
Good grief!
10 year old thread.
Spam post??
I tidy it up every day. Delete the few spam I get, unsubscribe to some, etc.
The more things you click on, the more spam you will get.
That's what I found anyway. I've learned the hard way.
It sounds like you've mastered the art of keeping your inbox tidy! Kudos to your efficient organizational skills! DH's approach of never deleting anything is definitely an interesting contrast!
Yes, you have to watch out for that with super-efficient screening programmes. I've picked up a few 'wanted' emails by checking my spam file over the years.
Gmail is good at screening and filtering spam. I haven't had anything suspicious for a long time. I sometimes have a look at the spam file to make sure it hasn't 'spammed' something that I want to read.
I don't get much spam in my hotmail account, perhaps half a dozen a week, and yet I order a great deal online from that account and very rarely remember to tick the 'no emails' box.
Perhaps some email providers are better at screening than others?
I have two email addresses, one goes to our main, shared computer and I use that one for all the mundane online ordering of bits and pieces, then I keep my Gmail address for personal emails.
I hardly get any junk or spam ones to either account.
I unsubscribe from anything that no longer interests me and delete anything that is not essential.
Wish I was as organised in other things too
All your replies are making me feel like a failure! But it has given me renewed resolve
I have seven email addresses - not sure why but they are all directed into two accounts so I can check them easily. I am very tidy with emails and immediately whisk them into various folders to keep my inbox empty. Works for me.
I do a lot of unsubscribing.
I too delete junk on a daily basis. Now my phone is connected to the account on my laptop I usually delete junk almost as it arrives. I don't file stuff I need I just flag it in the inbox.
I have lots of folders & emails get moved to the appropriate folder once read, unless they are still "pending", eg re orders that haven't arrived yet. My actual Inbox only contains a few retained pending emails. Every so often (when I think about it) I go through all of the folders and delete anything that is no longer needed/relevant/of interest, etc. I delete junk as and when received, and most, if not all, marketing emails get deleted pretty much on receipt.
I delete junk , or mark it as such so it goes straight to my junk box, on a daily basis and put stuff I've dealt with in the appropriate file! I hate having an overcrowded inbox!
DH, on the other hand, has never been known to delete anything
I use Opera Mail - I can add one or more labels to incoming mail, so that any message can be viewed in a list by checking the label and a message can appear in several views without having to be duplicated, as is the case when using folders. It also collects posts from RSS feeds.
I'm a long-time Opera browser user - at least fifteen years (which is about a century in computer years!)
I like Gmail and use the file system so that if an email contains certain words it is marked a certain colour. I can then concentrate on them. I find the spam filter good too, it remembers if you deleted emails from one address without opening it and puts it in the spam. I have and have had many email addresses and get them all forwarded to gmail. If you don't look for a couple of days there is lots of junk but it is easy to skim and delete.
I gave up using my gmail email account due to the amount of spam fifty to sixty a day. I still have the account but don't look at it very often but keep it as old log ins use the address.
I now have an Apple e mail address @me.com and have very very little spam or junk. I also regularly 'unsubscribe' to business emails and newsletter.
I really have to get a grip on my email inbox accounts at work and at home. When I think of the days where I had a completely manageable inbox situation - right at the beginning of email - it makes me quite wistful. I have one main email address - I did have another, which was meant to be a joint "family" one for husband and I, but a while ago I abandoned it to the spam and stopped checking it. So far the sky hasn't fallen in. I let the most important people in our lives know I was doing that, but one friend was miffed because I didn't respond to an email, she hadn't changed her contacts list!
Anyway, once again I have thousands in my gmail inbox, several thousands in my work inbox, I am inundated by "newsletters" and "special offers" and other notifications, and I feel quite overwhelmed.
I've also definitely got a hoarding thing going on with emails, especially work ones, as they are my "security blanket" and "filing system".
I'd be interested to hear how others deal with this aspect of modern life.
