As promised - do help yourselves!!
Nellie - there's always
&
(except we have BIG cakes!) over at MN for any Gransnetters - you are always welcome, you don't have to wait for a crisis!
You say you do really want to know what we think of the site. OK <just remember, you asked!! I wouldn't be so rude to criticise unbidden!>
- There are lots of 'bits' that we have on MN that you don't have here and I don't really know why not (is it choice/money spent on the site/other?) and I would miss them - (though feel free to tell me if you have them and I'm just too dim to have found them!!)
- Being able to highlight the OPs & your own posts.
- Inbox lighting up when you have a message.
- A column to tell you who started the thread
- Not being able to change the colour (I find the pink a bit sickly)
- There aren't many 'General Interest' threads, the do seem to be mostly 'age' focussed, but that maybe just that there aren't many threads... (which leads me to....)
- There aren't many threads!!
- It's so slow threads don't get posted on for weeks - let alone days, hours, minutes
I think on MN the 30 or so 'Active Conversations' are 'rolled over' within an hour at a slow time and within 5 minutes when it's busy. Which of course has it's disadvantages too - but you can always look at the appropriate boards (cooking/gardening/diy/camping - whatever).
- It's very polite over here, even when you are insulting each other it's all 'golly gosh'
I prefer the MN 'Oh FFS'
- In all seriousness, when you spend a lot of time with children, it's quite nice to have a space when you can vent with a few swear words thrown in for good measure and not have to worry about little ears or anyone else who might be offended.
- There just isn't enough going on over here. At one stage this morning I was the 'last poster' on about 5 threads and I was doing other stuff at the same time! I would end up dominating the boards if I came over here all the time.... then hanging around waiting for someone to reply. I feel like I'm invading Gransnet singlehandedly!!
However, it's a lovely place, you all seem happy with it and it must be nice to have a space away from MN which is more 'specialised'. I posted here a while ago when the Gransnetter went missing and it was a very lovely community with a lot of very wise, confident, positive women posting. By the time Gransnet is more my bag, I hope it's grown a bit bigger - and I think it will as I think many of us will migrate over!!
I have always felt like Gransnet is a board on Mumsnet - like Dadsnet, Gardening, Camping... it doesn't feel like a whole different site - and that's nice
