jinglbellsfrocks Sat 11-Oct-14 19:39:36

Oh Shite! Thought they'd all gone.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 11-Oct-14 19:38:55

Blimey. Someone had a lot to say for herself. hmmagain.

I would n't want that one visiting my house!

MammaTJ Sat 11-Oct-14 19:37:11

Thank you all for being so welcoming.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 11-Oct-14 19:36:36

Have they gone? hmm

Ana Sat 11-Oct-14 18:57:35

Goodness (or ffs), I've just noticed we haven't even scraped through the 24 hour mark on the Active page.

It's a new low - and that's with all the extra temporary members we've had on today! sad

Ana Sat 11-Oct-14 18:55:03

We are actually allowed to use Proper Swear Words as well, although not many do. GNHQ doesn't censor them! grin

Galen Sat 11-Oct-14 18:44:30

B iPad. Ffs is used here as well. I have to be really narked to use it though, although some use it quite often

Galen Sat 11-Oct-14 18:42:55

Fifa is used here as well!

Ana Sat 11-Oct-14 18:41:18

Thanks for your observations, Chippingin. GN has become very slow recently - it seems to be in a bit of a transition period!

There used to be a lot more swearing and outspoken comments a year or so ago, but newer members seem to disapprove so we've had to put the brakes on. Or, some of us have! grin

CeilingCat Sat 11-Oct-14 18:03:54

I do rather like the slimmer topic list. I think the MN topics have gone a bit crazy. Mind you, I'm getting on a bit at 56, but dd's only 15, so I'm not a gran yet, just older than the average(?); as I've told her she's not allowed to have sex until she's 35, I may not ever be a gran grin

CeilingCat Sat 11-Oct-14 17:56:33

Thank you so much for hosting us today! flowerscupcake

I was dragged out to shops by dh so had to leave suddenly and couldn't say goodbye. I could sing you a farewell, but you wouldn't thank me.

As promised - do help yourselves!!

Nellie - there's always brew & cupcake (except we have BIG cakes!) over at MN for any Gransnetters - you are always welcome, you don't have to wait for a crisis!

You say you do really want to know what we think of the site. OK <just remember, you asked!! I wouldn't be so rude to criticise unbidden!>

- There are lots of 'bits' that we have on MN that you don't have here and I don't really know why not (is it choice/money spent on the site/other?) and I would miss them - (though feel free to tell me if you have them and I'm just too dim to have found them!!)

- Being able to highlight the OPs & your own posts.
- Inbox lighting up when you have a message.
- A column to tell you who started the thread
- Not being able to change the colour (I find the pink a bit sickly)

- There aren't many 'General Interest' threads, the do seem to be mostly 'age' focussed, but that maybe just that there aren't many threads... (which leads me to....)

- There aren't many threads!!

- It's so slow threads don't get posted on for weeks - let alone days, hours, minutes smile I think on MN the 30 or so 'Active Conversations' are 'rolled over' within an hour at a slow time and within 5 minutes when it's busy. Which of course has it's disadvantages too - but you can always look at the appropriate boards (cooking/gardening/diy/camping - whatever).

- It's very polite over here, even when you are insulting each other it's all 'golly gosh' smile I prefer the MN 'Oh FFS'

- In all seriousness, when you spend a lot of time with children, it's quite nice to have a space when you can vent with a few swear words thrown in for good measure and not have to worry about little ears or anyone else who might be offended.

- There just isn't enough going on over here. At one stage this morning I was the 'last poster' on about 5 threads and I was doing other stuff at the same time! I would end up dominating the boards if I came over here all the time.... then hanging around waiting for someone to reply. I feel like I'm invading Gransnet singlehandedly!!

However, it's a lovely place, you all seem happy with it and it must be nice to have a space away from MN which is more 'specialised'. I posted here a while ago when the Gransnetter went missing and it was a very lovely community with a lot of very wise, confident, positive women posting. By the time Gransnet is more my bag, I hope it's grown a bit bigger - and I think it will as I think many of us will migrate over!!

I have always felt like Gransnet is a board on Mumsnet - like Dadsnet, Gardening, Camping... it doesn't feel like a whole different site - and that's nice smile

WandaDoff Sat 11-Oct-14 17:49:50

Thanks very much for having us Gransnetters grin

flowers flowers flowers

Pop over for a visit sometime & we'll break out the brew and cupcake gin

Galen Sat 11-Oct-14 17:32:50

Well all the apostles were different so they can't match can they!

Nelliemoser Sat 11-Oct-14 17:21:33

blackeyedsusan I have been drinking from mugs for about 50 yrs.
I no longer raise my little finger in the air whilst drinking a cup of Earl Grey in the family heirloom Sevres bone china with the family crest on it.
I have to confess that my teaspoons don't even match.

Shiongmaoniao Sat 11-Oct-14 16:59:30

Nope still can post but i can view it

pippitysqueakity Sat 11-Oct-14 16:45:07

Aaaw. Just hates me then.( Has it sorted for you Shion?)

BlackeyedSusan Sat 11-Oct-14 16:43:13

you may need to bring your eyebleach though. the language can be a bit ... anglosaxon.

BlackeyedSusan Sat 11-Oct-14 16:42:27

Of course we will provide cake. sorry but the tea comes in a mug. we do have wine though.

Lookslikeimstuckhere Sat 11-Oct-14 16:24:13

It took a while but seems to be ok now.

Thanks for having us GNetters smile flowers

Shiongmaoniao Sat 11-Oct-14 16:17:54

nope its not working for me sad

pippitysqueakity Sat 11-Oct-14 16:14:23

Thanks Gransnet for letting us in.
Can I just ask any stray MNers, is the site working for you? Or is it just me it hates?
