Christmas bling for the home?

I just put holly and ivy from the garden over the pictures and bring in the little Christmas tree which is in a pot. Don't like lights or sparkly tat.
Younger people seem to have given up cards and we never have given cards to people we will see at Christmas, so very few sent or received now.

How lovely to hear of all the festive things you do, and it has given me a few ideas, I would never have thought about a sparkly bush for example, but am now coming around to the idea.We should all aim to do something different! So we must thank Agus for this Xmassy tip [it's also given us a laugh, which in these cold rainy days, we need.]
Has anyone noticed that it's so much fun putting out all the Christmas stuff and such a drag packing them away again [or is it just me?]
This year for the first time we are having 2 Christmas trees [not in the same room, that would be a bit weird] a green one [dressed in red green and gold] and a white one [dressed in pink white and silver.]I also like lots of candles, especially the Yankee Candles, and I go around sniffing them joyfully. There is a lovely one called Christmas Cookie. YUM.

Just wondering if any of you who are planning to illuminate your bushes this year were thinking of doing any flashing......(light bulbs that is!)

Just don't be tempted to use real candles on your bushes - that could certainly give you a warm, fuzzy feeling...

Why not? People put Hopi candles in their ears.

At least outdoor bushes are not tinder-dry like indoor christmas trees, ready to go up with a whoosh at the touch of a flame.

My front bush, due to the off shore, salty breezes, is bald by the time December comes so, sadly, nowhere to drape twinkly accessories. However, my rear bush does not suffer quite so much from the elements as it is well protected and hidden so I may try a few novelty attachments this year...

I do not have a rear bush. I'm not sure whether I should feel glad about that, or sad...

No rear bush here either but the aspect is quite pleasant and has been admired in the past.

Oh give me bling every time. I love Christmas. Even though the DGC are in Scotland, and won't be visiting this year. I still want to decorate my house inside and out. I'm afraid we have no suitable bushes, either front or rear to support any illuminations.

Just rethinking this. Although I have a few bushes, front and rear which would look lovely festooned with lights, I have decided to concentrate on my favourite one, keep it subtle so as not to distract passers by.

I love it when I'm driving round and people have beautiful, brightly lit bushes on display outside their houses.

Another reason I won't be lighting all bushes, I would need more extensions and there comes a time when I must call a halt!

Oh agus, ana, gillybob et al many years ago I made a similar remark on the phone to a friend who promptly choked on her coffee then repeated it to her DH who did likewise spitting his all over their new sofa. I have never been allowed to forget it!

i don't know what to do this year, but I do know I won't do it anytime yet!
At home my parents decorated on Christmas Eve. Now I think this puts all the work at one time and is a bit late....

I haven't done much since one box of decorations disappeared about 4 years ago, and has never resurfaced....I borrowed some the next year thinking that the others would turn up. but they never have...got some more, but somehow the incentive has gone....
It is possible that Xmas dinner is here this year, which may wake me up!

Love the idea of waiting until Christmas Eve, but practicalities mean that I start early in December and gradually put the decs up bit by bit. I start with taking out the Christmas mugs to go on the kitchen window sill, and end with the Christmas tree. I LOVE CHRISTMAS.

I used to delay putting my decorations up as long as possible but over the last few years I have found if you leave buying the Christmas tree too close to Christmas you cannot get a decent one, so this year we will be out buying them (we have 2) in the first week of December.

We do leave the trees in the back garden until the end of the second week, but by then I give up and bring them in and decorate them and after that the house decorations start. The advantage is I can gradually decorate over a week before the Christmas catering and entertaining takes over.
