Anybody tempted to see this film, got a feeling it does not match the 70`s soft porn films like Emmanuelle.

Nope, not tempted.

Marelli Tue 17-Feb-15 07:28:56

No. Never saw Emmanuelle either, though (at first, I read this as 'Emmerdale' grin) enough soft porn in that for me, Michael12!

Marelli Tue 17-Feb-15 07:32:39

Sorry, 12Michael - I gave you a name-change just then!

Iam64 Tue 17-Feb-15 08:01:49

Not in the slightest bit tempted to either see the film or read the book. I don't understand why domestic abuse, dressed up as romance is attractive to anyone.

KatyK Tue 17-Feb-15 08:44:24

No

Katek Tue 17-Feb-15 08:44:36

Hall in next town is showing it as a fundraiser with touring cinema. Tickets were £10 and sold out in a day. Not for me.. I'm with iam64 on this.

Riverwalk Tue 17-Feb-15 08:59:09

Not tempted.

I've read that there was vomiting and violence at one cinema - it must be bad!

Teetime Tue 17-Feb-15 09:02:30

Me too I'm with Iam64 - sounds horrific I think I would be amongst the vomiters.

rockgran Tue 17-Feb-15 09:14:07

Not at all tempted - never understood the appeal of violence or pain in any situation.

TerriBull Tue 17-Feb-15 09:14:46

Allegedly the writing in the books is really poor, and playwright Patrick Marber was brought in to try and salvage the script, but E James wasn't having any of it, so the film is stuck with the appalling dialogue. I think the whole premise of the story sounds really pernicious, but dressed up as a love story.

In my opinion you also need a good narrative to drive a book along, if you want sex and a brilliant plot I would recommend The Crimson Petal and the White

pompa Tue 17-Feb-15 09:18:15

If you just want sex, go watch a porn film. Not tempted by Shades in any way whatsoever.

Marelli Tue 17-Feb-15 09:21:11

Neither book nor film would float my boat, either. Is there an actual story to the book, or is it a page turner to the 'mucky bits'? Each to their own, I daresay...hmm. If the film's bad enough to make people behave violently or actually be sick in the cinema, then I can't see any romance there at all. It came out in time for Valentine's Day and apparently there were comments on social media that there is likely to be an abundance of babies being born in 9 months time for those who saw the film. hmm

TerriBull Tue 17-Feb-15 09:22:42

I forget to mention I am not tempted whatsoever by 50 Shades of Shite, a lot of really good films around at the moment worth seeing. I'm waiting for the Julianne Moore film about dementia and Big Eyes starring Amy Adams to be released want to see both of those.

Riverwalk Tue 17-Feb-15 09:52:31

Emmerdale Marelli grin

Marelli Tue 17-Feb-15 10:11:13

gringrin!! Wot AM I like!

loopylou Tue 17-Feb-15 10:13:08

Rather optimistic me thinks Marelli!
Zilch interest in film, leaves me stone cold........

Retiredguy Tue 17-Feb-15 10:23:31

There's no Gaffa Tape to be had in B&Q.
All sold out.
I've not read the books and shan't be seeing the movie.
Couldn't imagine having to sit through something along these lines.
It would be sheer torture.

kittylester Tue 17-Feb-15 10:35:59

Retiredguy grin

No appeal at all for me either!

rubysong Tue 17-Feb-15 10:39:41

No to book, no to film.
Why have people been so taken in to think there is any romance in this. Is it mainly men persuading women to see it? I can't imagine any of the men in my life being at all interested in seeing it.

sunseeker Tue 17-Feb-15 10:46:40

I did try to read the book - couldn't even finish the first chapter it was so badly written - certainly have no interest in seeing the film.

Marty Tue 17-Feb-15 10:47:07

TerriBull. I agree about The Crimson Petal and the White. What a smashing book.
I haven't read Shades and don't intend to - or go to see the film. Yuk, no thanks.
American Bishops are saying it is an assault on Christian Marriage and does not promote the 'beauty of Gods design for a loving relationship'. I think it sad that Shades of Grey seems to be so popular when the abuse of women in the world is so prevalent. What is the world coming to when something as tacky as this seems to be so popular.

loopylou Tue 17-Feb-15 10:52:06

Judging by the paperbacks for sale in the supermarket yesterday this genre of writing seems to be proliferating, cannot see the attraction at all.

sunseeker Tue 17-Feb-15 10:57:18

I think without all the hype this book would have sunk without trace. Just goes to show the power of advertising!

Retiredguy Tue 17-Feb-15 13:03:26

You got that right loopylou.
Going by the cover blurbs it seemed like every other paperback on the supermarket book shelves over the weekend was a Fifty Shades of Grey type knock off.
