"I like the Arts better than nature"

That was probably me. Whereas nature pleases me, Art turns me on! The preference is just that really. Both are good; to me, one is better.

I think nature is the essence of art - and the rest follows on.

Gosh. Art vs nature? Couldn't possibly choose one over the other. Can't even compare them.

They are inextricably linked - nature can be both good and bad, as can art.

This is a little fun test. You have a day in Amsterdam. Would it be the Art galleries or the bulb fields.

Actually it would probably be the souvenir shop in Keukenhof Gardens. Bought some lovely painted glass from there. Tulips of course.

I can imagine a bare canvas coming to life as the artist works on it but it doesn't fill me with the same wonderment as, especially in spring, what appears to be a bare piece of earth gradually comes to life with beautiful blooms and shrubs.

I appreciate the artists work but nature can take my breath away.

The Keukenhof bulb gardens are a work of art. They are a 'tamed' form of nature, as are Monet's gardens which inspired his wonderful paintings.

No the Art Gallery. Those fields of bulbs are really boring. Hate the parks and gardens look. I like wild gardens(good job I f you could see mine)

Although I like Monet's work I got more pleasure actually seeing the real thing growing in his garden.

A beautiful garden is living art. So is one that's been allowed to go a bit wild.
Nothing more lovely to look at than a wildflower meadow.
I don't like the parks and gardens look either.

They are very striking, but a bit regimented. I should think the sight would pall quite quickly. Whereas a work of art can be looked at in depth and new things found.

If it was a choice between a wild flower meadow and a work of art, I would have more trouble deciding.

Anno Twelve rows down, the pic on the left is a Mondrian.

The thing I remember most vividly about the bulb gardens is the overpowering scent of millions (well it seemed like it) of hyacinths.

I do, in fairness, think Nature has the power to subdue art. Remember Diarmuid Gavin's lollipop feature at Chelsea,which didn't seem to work, and also James May's plasticene flowers, ditto.

Yes, that's it anno. I agree that gardens can be a work of art. But those works couldn't be created without nature doing it's part. That is very much the case in Monet's gardens.
