Happy day! My nephew and his wife have just had their first baby-a girl weighing 9lbs 12oz! I'm a great aunt now as well as a Nanna!

Lovely news Katek! Congrats all round. What a big girl! Orla is an Irish name, I suppose you know. It is spelt Orlaith in Irish but pronounced the same. Lovely name for a little girl. smile

Hello little Orla!
Babies are getting bigger and 10 pounders are commomplace now. My youngest of four big babies was 10lbs 9oz and her birth was very quick and easy. She was always a skinny child, only putting on weight after having her own 10 pounder three years ago.

Thanks again to all! Have just received first pics of a lovely little girl. She is called Orla - very old and pretty name which apparently means 'golden princess'

Joyful news! A lovely big great niece, KateK. I have seven 'greats' two of whom are in NZ. I'm seeing the others soon when we celebrate my sister's 70th. One of my GSs was 10lb 10oz - but he's a skinny, wiry, almost 10 year old now! flowers for great auntie.

How lovely KateK!
Welcome to the world of great aunties- I think that sounds a very dignified position somehow.
The weight made me wince shock

Marmight Wed 20-May-15 16:50:54

Conratulations Katek on your elevation to great-auntdom! I will never be an Aunt or G. Aunt as I was an 'only' sad
My middle DD was 9.10 and it was the easiest delivery of all three. My 8 gc's were all under 7lbs confused

Congratulations to all. Hope they haven`t bought too many first size clothes, they won`t be needed for more than a week!

Nelliemoser Wed 20-May-15 16:10:42

Congratulations Great Aunt. I was a great aunt 11 yrs before I became a grand mother. That is a big baby.

PRINTMISS Wed 20-May-15 15:43:20

Lovely news Katek. A new life is always a joyous occasion. What are they going to call their new baby?

kittylester Wed 20-May-15 15:19:02

I've been a great aunt for 25 years - I found the experience quite unnerving as I was only just 41.

Maggiemaybe Wed 20-May-15 13:55:50

I've been a Great Aunt for nearly 20 years. I suppose Great Great Aunthood might be beckoning soon. shock

Have a nice lie down and feel all happy when you wake up and remember your lovely (whopping) great niece!

Katek Wed 20-May-15 13:46:36

Correction...my dc not dgc! Think I need a lie down!

Katek Wed 20-May-15 13:45:21

Posted too quickly! Thanks for all the good wishes, it's just lovely to have another new baby in the family! grin

My dgc were tiny at around 6lb and that was bad enough! I feel as a great aunt I should go a bit Margaret Rutherford or perhaps Joan Hickson??
