Soft fizzy drink - orange juice topped up with tonic water. Not too sweet and very refreshing. But give me champers, prosecco or cava. Brut of course.

I like that one, too mcem. They've got it in Waitrose.

I'll drink champagne out of anything offered, but prefer those Babycham-type glasses. Never left it in the glass long enough for it to stop bubbling

My current favourite is Bottle Green pomegranate and elderflower. Not over-sweet and not too fizzy. A bit like a non-alcoholic rosé.

Like you Bags I struggle to find a palatable soft fizzy drink. They're far too sweet. The only thing which makes Coke vaguely palatable is a good slug of rum.

(Bottle Green lemon grass and ginger cordial made up with fizzy water isn't too bad in small quantities.)

I was once told (by someone who should know) that the only way to drink champagne was from a half-pint glass on a hot day in the garden. Amazingly, shortly afterwards I was given a case of half-bottles of vintage Moet & Chandon which had been in storage for years and years and had possibly 'gone off' in some way, so couldn't be sold. As luck would have it, this was in 1976 and we'd just moved into our first house, which had a garden, of sorts, so I was able to test the theory in full, and I couldn't agree more!

So does tap water . Seriously, I've yet to find a soft fizzy drink that I like. They are all too sweet or too 'metallic' for my taste.

I'm not actually looking very hard but I have tried a few when offered one. Meh.

I do like soft fizzy drinks, they make a good alternative to alcohol.

Funny you should say that harrigran , I've been experimenting with various nice sounding alcohol free drinks I have the odd friend, (very odd actually) who don't drink and I do try to find drinks to offer them that are sort of "special" i.e. not mineral water or fruit juice and top of the league so far are a Cranberry & Raspberry Spritzer (£1 in Asda) and also from Asda a Red Grape and Hibiscus Spritzer, although the last few times I have been in this one wasn't on the shelves.

I quite like to add wild hibiscus flowers to a glass of champagne, it looks pretty and adds a little je ne sais quoi, works well with prosecco too

All this talk of champagne. I just really fancy a glass now. DH and I always crack open a bottle on our first outing of the year in our caravan. We haven't been yet this year yet so might need to just have the champagne at home. I'm sure we can find something to celebrate!

No Galen I haven't but now you have come up with the suggestion it would seem churlish not to have a go.... off to try it now..will let you know how I get on later ....maybe much later

Mmmm, there are some lovely Prosecco's around, it's the latest must drink, apparently.

I once went to a New Years Eve party where the only drink was champagne cocktails, cube of sugar, measure of brandy, dash of angostura bitters, top with the fizz. Ate loads from a lovely hot food selection, went home, took make up off, went to bed. The furniture stayed were it was meant to, no problem. The next morning I wanted to die, the worst hangover EVER..... Until that is Mr P and I had champagne with Chinese food, apparently it's famous for it. I will never ever mix those two again.

Have you tried adding 1/2 a measure of brandy and 1/2 a measure of Cointreau to a large glass of fizz?

Galen you are so right! Mr P refers to any type of alcoholic fizz as "restorative" I love it when he asks "Would you like a glass of something restorative, darling?"

Currently (although NOT at this actual moment) testing the restorative powers of Asda Cava Brut. £5 a bottle!

we were given some lovely crystal champagne flutes as a present years ago if only we had some champagne to put in them[violins needed.]

I use the bowls for champagne jellies. I always thought it was Pauline Buonaparte 's breasts that was the model.

I never thought of putting champagne in glasses, I just have it on my cornflakes.

I didn't know Le Creuset did them - must get one to feed my Le Creuset addiction!

We actually have one (a different make) and find it too much of a faff compared to a teaspoon.
