Following on from another thread where mammatj(?) said she would only be 47 when she becomes a grandmother, I just wondered what age we all were when our first dgc was born. I was 56

My mother was only 9 years younger than DH's grandmother hmm

I was sixty and both grandchildren are now adults.

My first one was christened, age 6 months, on my 60th birthday, so I must have been 59 when he was born. My mind was full of other things at the time.

My mother had me very late and I had my chldren late, I had always thought, but when I take her birth year from my son's, it makes her 63 when she became a grandmother. My mother-in-law, however, was 8 years older: 71.

56 for my first and 60 for the second. I was however a step grandmother at 38, not sure that counts though, and my sons became uncles aged 6 and 2, all part and parcel of the modern day family! I'm trying to work out what relationship Mick Jagger's new great grandchild is to her grandmother Jade's new child, an aunt I think, if that makes any sense confused

I was 51.

gilly grin These days some 38 year-olds are still to have their first baby!

It's lovely that you have 5-generation family - we are a mere 4.

I was 45 for my first and 61 for my most recent - I have two offspring yet to reproduce and one of them, my eldest son, reminds me that I have to stay as healthy as possible and not wear myself out before his children are born. He's looked forward to being a father since he was just a boy himself. smile

We are a 5 generation family. My own grandma became a great, great grandma at 90.

I was 44 when DGD was born but I am ashamed to say I made my own mum a grandma at only 38 !

56 when youngest DD produced my first DC in rather unfortunate circumstances. But he is so special to me for that. Was at his birth, late Christmas Eve, and listened to Silent Night all the way home in the car. Still get weepy when I hear it, thinking of my abandoned girl nursing her new born baby son and looking at him with such love and fear in her eyes.

Pittcity Mon 15-Jun-15 08:47:17

I was 48.

Greyduster Mon 15-Jun-15 08:12:16

I was 60. DD was 36 before she had GS. Now he is eight and I wish I was ten years younger!

Lilygran Mon 15-Jun-15 07:39:44

I am 64 yrs and don't know what age I will be, if I become one.

Grandma2213 Mon 15-Jun-15 03:50:39

I had two grandchildren at 60, another two at 62 and the last (so far) at 65. I never thought I would have any from my sons and I was a sort of surrogate grandma to my sister's two children. I still have one childless son but he has recently become involved with a much younger partner so who knows?

rubylady Mon 15-Jun-15 00:23:46

I was 46, 23 when I had DD, she was 23 when she had DGS. I thought this was quite young really and aged me loads at the time.

42 when first DGC born and now have 5, first DGGC due in 10 days which will make me great granny (65) and my mum great great granny (94). Very strange but lucky to have my mum still.

harrigran Sun 14-Jun-15 23:31:07

I was 59. Had my first child at 22 and last at 25, GC are offspring of youngest child.

ninathenana Sun 14-Jun-15 22:48:59

grin 21+32 doesn't add up to 55 !

Time of year means I was 33 and DD 22

ninathenana Sun 14-Jun-15 22:44:40

I was 55 DD was 21 when DG was born but I had her at 32.
My friend was 60 last month, her oldest GC is 22 so she was 38.

louisamay Sun 14-Jun-15 22:35:06

Yikes - I feel SO old. Like Bellanonna. I was 71 when my first (and only) grandchild was born. I should really be a GGM!

Bellanonna Sun 14-Jun-15 21:56:45

As I said earlier, I was 71 and my DGC are now 3, 2 and 1,via my two
DDs. We adore them but being that much older it is physically harder given their young ages. However we are overjoyed to have them as we never expected to be grandparents. Both mums are older too but then quite a few of their friends are. It doesn't seem to be unusual to have babies later now. I sometimes feel sad that we probably won't be around when they are teenagers ( I'm now in my 75th year) but I am just grateful that we have them at all. smile

I was 61. DD had been married for 10 years before she had her first. I had to wait another 6 years for the other two.

I was 49, and almost 65 when the last one was born. My SIL was 33 when her first grandchild was born, and became a great gran in her early 50s, she`s now almost a great great gran at 75.

durhamjen Sun 14-Jun-15 21:45:54
