Following on from another thread where mammatj(?) said she would only be 47 when she becomes a grandmother, I just wondered what age we all were when our first dgc was born. I was 56

I was 40.

I was 54 when DGD1 was born in 2005. In 2008 her cousin, DGS 1 and sister, DGD 2 were born a few months apart. In 2012 DGS 1 gained a little brother, my DGS2.

I was 24, almost 25, when I had DD1 who was followed 2 yrs later by DD2.

My DD2 was 27 when she had her first daughter & my DD1 was 32 when her first baby arrived.

My MIL was 46 when her 1st GC was born and 70 when she became a GGM. Her mother was 92 when she became a GGGM. So we were lucky enough to have 5 generations for a while.

I was 48 when my DGS was born. He is still my only one and is now 12. Youngest daughter married in April and I know they are keen to have a family so fingers crossed the next one may come when I am 61.

I was 54 when DGS1 was born, the same age as my gran was when I was born.

I was 51 when absentdaughter produced my first grandson and 65 when the sixth and most recent was born this year. Today, incidentally is the fourth grandchild's seventh birthday – I was 58 when he was born. That's enough arithmetic for now.

18 and 2 weeks for first marriage, 20 and 1 week when I had DS1, who is now 36. First DGS born 2007, so I must have been 49? confused

I was 52 when my first dgd was born.

I was 38, had my 1st child at 21. My 1st DGD will be 21 next month.

I was 64 thought it would never happen..... All my boys had been in long term relationships. I would never ask them about marriage or starting a family but I was so desperate to have a Grandchild that one Christmas I put some tinsel around an old wooden family highchair. It caused a lot of hilarity and murmurs of 'Think Mum is losing her marbles' but....it worked ! Now have a 5 year old and a 14 month old and consider myself truly blessed.

I was 59. Again a real change in the generations as to when we had our children. I was 22 when I had my first, which was certainly early amongst our friends who tended to around 26 and my son was 33 when they had my first DGC which was about average amongst his friends.

I was 52 when my first wonderful grand-daughter arrived.

Nelliemoser Sun 14-Jun-15 20:11:42

64 when DGS1 arrived.

Marmight Sun 14-Jun-15 20:02:30

54 and now have 8 ranging from 11 to 2.

Jomarie Sun 14-Jun-15 19:53:31

I was 62! Thought it would never happen! I used to joke about it to well meaning acquaintances by explaining that that was the one thing I said that my kids actually took any notice of ie. "Don't have children!" grin

I was a mother at 23, 26 and 30 (last one was frowned upon as being too old in those days!) How things change so quickly don't you think?

My eldest and youngest still yet to produce - my middle one DD finally made me a granny when she was 36! Sadly this is the only one I will get from her as DSil previously married with two daughters both now in their late teens and doesn't want to "go round the boy again". NMB but do feel a bit sorry for DD as she would love another one. Aah well hmm

I suppose in theory any one of us could have been great-grans at around 50 and great-great-grans at around 67 or so...confused

Thank goodness it doesn't happen that often!

petallus Sun 14-Jun-15 19:41:25

First gc when I was 46. Now four in all, eldest being 26, youngest 9. A great grandson a few months ago when I was 72.

downtoearth Sun 14-Jun-15 19:33:59

Greenfinch Sun 14-Jun-15 19:14:06

Mishap Sun 14-Jun-15 19:09:23

I was 54 - and we now have 7 of them!

loopylou Sun 14-Jun-15 19:08:48

A childhood friend's mother was 38 when became a GM, I thought that was pretty young!

Katek Sun 14-Jun-15 19:05:40

Gosh.....what a wide range, from 39-71! Youngest I have known in RL was 36. I have two little DGS of just 2 and 4 months old now in my 60's and wish DS/DIL had had them sooner. It wasn't to be however, and I'm just so grateful they managed to have them. I can still kick a ball-just don't ask me to run for it!

pinkprincess Sun 14-Jun-15 19:04:24

I was 47

Last year I became a great grandmother at 70.

I was old for my family traits though, two of my sisters were grandmothers at 39 and 43, and one of them became a great grandmother at 60.

MammaTJ Sun 14-Jun-15 19:01:58

I will actually be 48 by the time baby is born.

I was 27 when I had my first child, 39 when I had my last, so could be described as a late developer!
