What age did you become a grandparent?

I was 51 when my GD1 arrived and still working full time. My son had a relationship with a slightly older girl who already had two children. The relationship didn't last but I was able to keep contact with my GD and watch her growing up, through her schooldays and university. She used to invade my kitchen at weekends, to bake cakes and cookies which she researched on line on my computer. She is now living 'down south' with her dad, stepmother and two half siblings. I see them as often as I can. I'm so grateful that I had the opportunity to see one of my GC growing up whereas I live too far from the other four.

I was 67 and hubby nearly 69 when a very special gs arrived. Children just haven't happened for daughter no. 1 and her husband and daughter no. 2 was very involved with her career and other interests. This gs will probably be our only gc so is indeed very special but it would be so good not to live a 3 hour drive away.

65, rather good planning by my daughter my friends think but I did not retire until I was 67

I was 46 when oldest granddaughter born, 54 when youngest born. Have 6 grandkids altogether.

I was 55 when first GS was born, I now have 9 grandchildren the last three being born within 8 weeks and they will be 8 this year. The oldest has just turned 19 and is off to uni.

I was 61 - never thought my two children would ever get round to having families . Then my son and daughter -in -law had twins at 37 and my daughter of 40 and son- in -law had a girl all within a year! We live fairly close by so it's full on - less so now as the twins are five and in school . But those first couple of years were exhausting. !

I was 60 when our step-grand daughter was born, and for my own first grandchild 6 years later, 66.
Our 2nd son and his wife can't have children, but moved to India and are adopting 4 gorgeous Indian chidren, oldest now 13. I don't see enough of them though.

Classic Beatles song age - 64. And I learned I'd become a grandma for the first time while I was up on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square, taking part in Anthony Gormley's living sculpture project, "One and Other". A truly memorable day!

I was 69 when our first grandson was born.

I will be 65 when my first grandchild is born. And like Grannyknot had just about given up. My daughter will be 39 when she has our first grandchild. We are all very excited - for both sides of the family it will be a first. My daughters MiL will be 71 I think.

I was 58 when first GD born - in Hong Kong! (Am now 63). Thank goodness my son is now working in UK so I can see my darling GD and darling GS much more often. And this week my younger son and his wife presented me with another gorgeous GD, whom I met yesterday for the first time. I feel extremely blessed as several of my friends have no grandchildren at all and would have loved them.

I was 55 I had my first child at just gone 22 so could have been a grandmother earlier technically but my daughter didn't oblige until she was 33. I was so happy when she told me I'd been desperate to have grandchildren then at ther 12 week scan they said she was having twins! Icing on the cake!

I and hubby 62 and 66. The age is irrelevant. my offspring met and married a bit later just like us. The main thing is they and our grandchildren are deeply loved and wanted. The grandchildren are keeping us young, all five of them!

At the age of 61 I was lucky enough to have two grandchildren born within 5weeks of each other. What a joy and blessing they are!

No wonder I am likely to be getting on- I had my own toddler at 43yrs! My family do things late and we have 3 generations where many have 5.

I was 52 when my GD was born, then a year later a GS. When GS was nearly two another three grandchildren were born, two boys and a girl, all born within seventeen days. In three years and one day I was the GM of five GC.

Nearly four years later my youngest GD was born. They all get on really well, it's wonderful when they are all together.

I was 65 (last year) when my grandson was born and I had also just about given up. I only have the one GC so far ... and he is not spoilt rotten by his adoring granny, no, not at all

I was 51. My grandchildren range now from 19 to 3 and there won't be any more.

I was 57 when step gd was born, 60 when Dd had her 1st and will be 67 when latest step gs arrives in Sept1 All the girls in the family were over 30 when they produced and my step dd will be nearly 40 when hers is born (her 1st)!!I don't think I will ever be a great grandmother!!
