Jamie Lawson - I wasn't expecting that.

Has any one else dissolved in tears listening to this song? I love songs that tell a story and so listen very carefully to the lyrics. Each time this song comes on, it makes me cry and I really can't decide whether it is really good or really bad. sad

Another one that gets me at the moment is Don Henley singing 'Take a picture of this' and, as for Meatloaf singing, 'Is nothing Sacred Anymore?', well.... sad

The Jamie Lawson song is a bit too close to home for me. I have to turn it off when it comes on the radio now.

The Living Years sung by Paul Carrack always gets me in the solar plexus, especially "I wasn't there that morning when my father passed away, I wasn't there to tell him all the things I had to say. I think I caught his spirit later that same year, I'm sure I heard his echo in my baby's newborn tears..." Sob.

And Pie Jesu.

Did listen to Jamie Lawson song. But it did nothing for me or the Conway Twitty one either. I am now racking my brains trying to think of one that does move me. I love Albatross by Fleetwood Mac and the theme from Dr Zvigago but there are no words, I find some classical can make me cry, but again no words.

Aviccis 'Oh Brother always makes me cry, as does Johnny Cash's 'Hurt'.

I have always enjoyed poetic singer song writers with guitars.

When I was young we used to go to a folk club in Soho to listen to the likes of Al Stewart and others. I haven't heard of Jamie Lawson but he is my kind of singer. Thanks for the find.

Wonderful that the genre lives on with such talent and integrity. That song made me cry, saw UP several years ago , and had forgotten the song.

Chris Evans got into trouble yesterday for waffling talking over the end of Jamie Lawson's song! Apparently they got a lot of calls (probably mainly from angry GNers). smile

I've caught this twice on the radio and been really moved by it. I had no idea who the singer was, so thanks for that!

Id never heard of this, film or song, so thanks Kitty. We usually have to wait till we are compelled to catch up with DDs and GC in England before we catch up with anything modern. Just played it to DH, who agreed that it is definitely a tear jerker. One we will be buying.

Grannyk and Maggie we were on a long drive yesterday listening to old sixties and seventies CDs including Conway Twitty. It's almost compulsive to sing along with him loudly and badly. grin I love the sound of Twitty City. grin

kitty thank you so much for this thread - for the first time in thirty years I have just bought a brand new CD. The Wonderful Man is in shock! shock

I had a spare hour before my student was due this afternoon and I clicked on Grannyknot's link and listened to 'I wasn't expecting that'. I can't remember when a song had such an impact on me so I googled a few more of Jamie Lawson's songs and I just really, really like his musical style. So much so that after buying his new album (released today) I have also bought one of his previous albums - I'm listening to it now and it's lovely. smile

I once saw Conway Twitty perform at Twitty City in Tennessee. This doesn't add to the thread at all, but the concept of Twitty City still makes me grin.
