He wouldn't be involved in discussing money - top celebs have managers, agents, etc. to handle this kind of stuff. A top presenter could ask at least ten times that amount. It's a high profile show which is why the 'guests' like groups and singers appear for free. What better free marketing could they ask for?

TW has always been heavily involved in CIN since it started in 1980 (he also did the BBC's Children's Christmas Appeal in 1978 and 1979) and I think it's a shame his reputation should be questioned like this, when he's helped it be so successful. I think the media was muck raking when this was first discovered in 2007.

gillybob, The BBC pays TW's fee for hosting CIN so he's not creaming off anyone's hard earned pennies but I do agree that being paid in full seems the wrong thing to expect although we do not know if he personally donates.

The CIN thing really put me off Terry Wogan too Purpledaffodil what a hypocrite encouraging ordinary working class people to give their hard earned pennies and all the time he was creaming it off. Little children emptied their piggy banks to give the money to CIN or rather to Sir Terry

We've recently been having a very frustating time trying to pin down our plumber to complete some work. This morning DH tried to phone him for the umpteenth time but it went straight to answerphone.

I couldn't help giggling when I heard him shout, 'FFS. This is like the bloody dark ages!'

I'm not exactly sure when the dark ages were but did they have mobile phones and plumbers?

When we're all together I get the names of my DH, my nephew and my two brothers mixed up because they all start with the same letter - two of them have the same name!

I can now really enjoy DD getting her two boys names mixed up. She used to complain like mad if I accidentally called her by her brothers name so I do not hesitate now to point it out if she has made that mistake.

You don't normally get paid thousands for appearances. I think the TW story came out that the BBC paid Jonathan Ross or Graham Norton (can't remember which) 17 million a year. We're talking silly money when it comes to how much celebrities are paid. Do you really think £10k is a lot of money for presenting an 8 hour live TV show? How much do you think someone like Graham Norton gets paid per show? It's a lot more than £10k.

Just to set the record straight, TW has not been paid for presenting CIN since 2007 when the matter came to light through a Freedom of Information Act request. He was paid about £9000/£10000 for each show, described as an honorarium by the BBC. He wasn't involved in the original negotiations and I doubt if he even knew about it. I felt a bit sorry for him at the time because if it wasn't for him, CIN would never have been such a success story.

It's not just that he insisted on a large fee to appear on Children In Need. Or his habit of always smiling, even when he is being rather nasty. .
To me, something dark and dissatisfied chafes under his eternal persona of bumbling, convivial golf club cove.

For example, his broadside at newsreaders - he suggested that a talking turnip could do the job - was classic passive-aggressive Wogan.
He had done the job, he said. There was nothing to it. And there is nothing to being a radio presenter either. Indeed.

So glad he is relegated to Sunday radio where I don't have to listen to his faux-funny ramblings.

Can't understand the argument about Terry Wogan. A program like Children in Need requires a back-of-house army of people to make it work: cameramen, musicians, make-up, etc. Are you seriously suggesting that none of them should be paid either? What if it was your job? Would you be happy if your employer told you to come to work for a shift but then told you that you weren't going to get paid?

Remember that it is the BBC that pays Terry Wogan NOT the Children In Need charity.

There is a museum for children in Halifax called " Eureka" the name being based on the discoveries of Archimedes. There is a working model inside of the man dropping into the bath and of course the water overflows. Our little star took us there one day and pointed excitedly and said, "Look Grandma, the COMEDIAN is going to have a bath with his clothes on!" Priceless!!

Its just that if I send a donation to Children in Need, I want to know that my money is going to the charity and not to line his pockets, which are a lot deeper than mine!

harriran and mrsmopp I take back that part of my comment then. That is terrible! A man like that surely should not be part of it, there must be many more who could do it just as well and not ask for money.

I read that TW was paid for presenting CIN, have just checked , yes he was the only presenter who asked and was paid.

mrsmopp I thought that no one was paid for being on Children in Need.

Not a big TW fan but feel the need to stand up for him and all the others because we don't know what they give to charity. If they made a big fuss and told us we wouldn't like that and if they give quietly like the rest of us some think they don't give. Damned if they do and damned if they don't

TW annoyed me by presenting Children in Need and asking us to send money in for the charity. He has vastly more wealth than most of us, so wouldn't it be a nice gesture if he presented the show for nothing? Or donated the amount he was paid?

I tend to laugh at myself more than anything else. It is not the GC's names I get mixed up but the DC's when they are all around me I call them all whichever name comes into my mind. I do laugh out loud when they wind their father up and he simply doesn't understand.

Sometimes I even laugh out loud at what I read here.

Oh yes, a post on Fb this morning which had us both in stitches but it is too non PC to share!
