Very longggggggggggggggg threads

I can too, well, I can't remember which threads, but I remember it happening; I've probably taken part in such myself. However, if and when I have done that it has been because the thread was getting nasty and the so-called derailment has been a deliberate attempt to get things back onto a more equable footing, either discussing something else or going back to the original theme without the bitchiness.

I don't flatter myself I've ever derailed redirected a thread all by myself but I have consciously taken part in trying to calm things down at times.

And I am not ashamed of so doing.

As for facetiousness... It's allowed. Free speech and all that.

Just like to make the point that when I do have 'something better to do' I do it!

Sometimes it seems the odd facetious comment is seen as an affront to the earnest nature of whatever thread it's been posted on, possibly in an attempt to lighten the mood.

I think it's rather worrying that some people believe they know what motivates others and can't wait to snap their heads off...

Eloethan - with you about the facetious cryptic little posts which sometimes deteriorate into a private chat. Not worth scrolling through, like some teens' texts. Boards for everyone, not just some self selected in group!!
Gransnet is great as distraction when unwell or sleepless. Long may it flourish!!

Why shouldn't gransnetters who have got to know each other have chats on the forum? So long as they are not abusing someone else, surely that is within the forum guidelines?

And as for cryptic, what happened to ignoring stuff you don't understand, shrugging it off, thinking "wonder what she's on about? oh well what the heck?"

That 'you' include me, btw. I'm useless at cryptic stuff.

I usally reckon that by the time a thread has had 30+ responses all that can be said on the topic has probably been said and posters are just saying the same thing in different words.

There's a difference between being annoying and being annoyed. It is very rare to read a post where someone seems to have been trying to be annoying; less rare to see posts where the poster seems to be annoyed about someone else's post.
