Apologies if this has already been done! Mine was Paul Anka's 'Diana' - 'I'm so young and you're so old ...'

The LP of The sound of music.

"Anastasia" by Pat Boone. I still have it, and still love it.

NotTooOld Fri 06-Nov-15 17:53:38

numberplease - thank you for that (Debbie Reynolds). I don't know why the Bonzo Dog-doodah Band was on the B side, in that case. I wonder if I've remembered that wrongly.

Just remember, I was just a kid!

Tammy was by Debbie Reynolds.
A record that I never had, but loved, was played loads of times on Family Favourites. It was Deck of Cards, by Wink Martindale. Anyone remember it?

'Tammy' but I can't remember who sang it - it goes 'whiporwill, whiporwill, you and I know....Tammy, Tammy, you love him so....etc.' anyone remember it? The B side was by the Bonzo Dog Doo-dah Band and it was actually my Dad who bought it because my pocket money would not stretch that far.

Strawberry Fair by Anthony Newley in 1960. I got my first record player for Christmas I was nine years old.

Funnygran Fri 06-Nov-15 13:57:32

Return to Sender by Elvis. Played it so much on my Dansette record player that I think I wore the needle out.

libra10 Fri 06-Nov-15 13:37:59

One of my first 78s was Diana. My parents bought me a radiogram for my birthday - it was cheaper than a record player. A massive wooden box with a lid on.

I chose Diana, an Elvis record, and three others, can't remember which.

Happy days!

First purchase was 1961, "Frightened City" by the Shadows.
Adored the Shadows till fickle me discovered the Beatles.
Farmor51,"Pretty Woman" means a lot to me, spent lots of my student grant playing it on the jukebox in the caff near college.
Another meaningful record (do I feel a new thread coming on??) "Bohemian Rhapsody" was number one when daughter was born in 1975 so they are both nearly 40! Ha ha!

nanajack Fri 06-Nov-15 13:16:22

Those were the days, by Mary Hopkins. Still love this song.

hazeljoy Fri 06-Nov-15 12:19:02

Are You Lonesome Tonight by Elvis Presley. We used to be able to go in a booth to listen to the records before we bought them. We bought them at Brian Epsteins family shop in Liverpool

oldie730 Fri 06-Nov-15 12:08:24

Garden of Eden by Frankie Vaughan

adrisco Fri 06-Nov-15 12:07:29

I'm a Believer - The Monkees.

Faraway43 Fri 06-Nov-15 11:51:11

Harry Belafonte - Scarlet Ribbons, probably showing my age.

Youngeil Fri 06-Nov-15 11:38:55

Rock with the Caveman by Tommy Steele - and a boyfriend sat on it! First LP was soundtrack of King and I

Nana3 Fri 06-Nov-15 11:24:19

Memphis Tennessee- Chuck Berry. It was also released by Dave Berry and the Cruisers but I preferred the Chuck Berry. Still know all the words to it and other songs of the 60s.
It's fun when an old song is released by a new new singer and you can astonish the DGC by singing along smile

geeljay Fri 06-Nov-15 11:18:23

Stardust, Nat King Cole. My last one was I wanna know what love is. The Eagles.

pensionpat Fri 06-Nov-15 11:12:34

Don't treat me like a child. Helen Shapiro

JosieS Fri 06-Nov-15 11:04:55

When a Man Loves a Woman by Percy Sledge. Still love this song now.

Londoner Fri 06-Nov-15 10:49:33

I bought them in A1 Stores, Walworth ~Road, S.E. London. I can still remember how excited I was.
