A duck in my shoe!

I bought a pair of Berghaus leather walking boots recently, on Ebay, which had only been worn once. They were great value, but are driving me nuts with a loud squeak in one as I walk. It sounds like a duck quacking! The noise seems to be around the ankle area. I have tried sprinkling inner seams and under insole with talc, and they are polished with Brasher conditioning cream after every use.
Can anyone suggest any other remedy? I am wondering whether this was the true reason for the sale.

I've no ideas I'm afraid, but I do have several pairs of squeaky shoes hmm

Rub some raw potato into the internal leather.

No suggestions but I had a pair of squeaky shoes once; I have no idea why they squeaked.

WD40 wink Alternatively, slow roast and serve with orange sauce. Sorry blush

brings a new meaning to the phrase 'this meat's as tough as old boot'

Why not contact Berghaus and ask them for advice. You don't need to say you bought them on e-bay.

I have a pair of sandals (Clarks) very comfortable, but when worn with bare feet ( which you usually do with sandals) emit a quiet, but rude noise!

Good idea granjura. They are a Brasher design, but there has been a take-over.

I thought this was going to be one of phoenix 's adventures when I read the title grin

The joining up of the 2 brands makes no difference. Their website has a contact address- just send them a note. Nothing to lose.

Thank you Bags! I have just been for my morning walk and the duck has become a mouse after the potato treatment. I have done it again, so, if nothing else, the rubbing action may soften the already soft leather a bit more.
I have also contacted Berghaus asking for tips, so thanks also to Granjura.

I had a pair of lovely diamante Birkies that used to fart as I walked!

I like bags suggestion & will bear that in mind for future reference. How in earth did someone discover that raw potato cured squeaks on footwear

You have to wonder! grin

Following another thread, I am wondering about coconut oil, it seems to be useful for many things!
I had a reply from Berhgaus, suggesting I return the boots to the retailer with the receipt and get them to investigate. It is not a problem they have come across before! As I bought nearly new from Ebay, I can't do that.

granjura what a shame to disturb them!! grin

I got used to shaking out my boots/shoes from when we are in Australia - never know what you might find out there!
I have never found a duck, though, not even a duckling.
DH had a mouse in his welly which was left in the garage. Luckily she had not produced babies.

Shame Shysal. A friend of ours bought some ski boots from Oxfam shop- nearly new and the perfect size (he has massive feet and finding him hire boots was always a nightmare- size 14 and very narrow)- but a clip was broken. He wrote to Nordica and asked to buy a new clip (not mentioning the 5 quid at Oxfam) so they said to send the boot back to them to see. 1 week later he received a parcel- a brand new pair, worth about £300 - with a letter of aplogoy saying the model was now obsolete and they couldn't replace the clip. Trust him (lovely guy but always very hesitant to spend - one poster here will know him as the Head of PE at her local High School ;) )... He was mightily pleased!

I have some sturdy Berghaus trainers and I must say they are taking some breaking in!

We had a pair of ducks on our pond this morning, I was so happy to see them. The pond had been totally choked with bullrushes (no water visible) , we had it cleared out, and the ducks are back!

Good luck with the shoes smile

My Keen walking sandals make farty noises when I walk. The left one is particularly loud. It's most embarrassing.
