A duck in my shoe!

I bought a pair of Berghaus leather walking boots recently, on Ebay, which had only been worn once. They were great value, but are driving me nuts with a loud squeak in one as I walk. It sounds like a duck quacking! The noise seems to be around the ankle area. I have tried sprinkling inner seams and under insole with talc, and they are polished with Brasher conditioning cream after every use.
Can anyone suggest any other remedy? I am wondering whether this was the true reason for the sale.

Just like my Clarks ones then! I hope nobody notices.grin I wonder if talc will help.

Talc does help - but with sandals I fear I'm leaving little puffs of white as I walk! Luckily, I'm back into shoes most of the time now.

I didn't have a squeak in my walking boots, but I did find that olive oil was easily absorbed by the leather and had a softening effect. I don't fully understand the science of it, but I did once hear that olive oil had a similar molecular structure to leather. Scientists, feel free to shoot that one down.

Does that mean we can cook eggs on leather boots ( if it's hot enough)?

rosequartz, sorry you are having trouble getting used to your Berghaus trainers. I chose these boots (Supalite 11 GTX) because they are said to be the lightest on the market and need no breaking in, which was true. They are the most comfortable I have ever owned, and accommodate my bunion.
I had only a slight squeak this morning, which I was able to ignore, so getting there!

My Fit Flops sound like a wet fart (!) when I walk! Almost glad it's winter now lol

shysal these trainers aren't that light, the first time I wore them (2 years ago!) I felt as if they cut across the toe joints on my left foot, so I nearly threw them out, but have worn them 2 or 3 times this year and they feel better, thanks. smile

I have a farting pair of sandals as well!
