Perhaps that's where I've been going wrong when suffering from sea sickness! I need to drink half a bottle of bubbly and glue Chianti with my last final (it often makes you feel as if it will be too!) meal!

Alzheimer's is such a cruel disease, i meet so many people with it.....

loopylou our neighbour, a very good friend, seemed buoyant in spirit at this time last year. We didn't know then that he has dementia. When his wife died in the spring, he went down hill at a rapid pace. We will take him to the usual Boxing day gathering at a mutual friend's home. He will sit and stare and barely put half a dozen words together.

I had to smile today when a lovely friend put a card through the door. I thought we had had one from her already, checked and we had. They were both in aid of The Alzheimer's Society. tchgrin

Not funny really as her favourite sister is suffering with the disease but it did make me smile! sad

There`s a lady lives round the back of us, we`re not pals as in visiting each other, but we always had a chat whenever we met, and we always send each other a card at Christmas. I haven`t seen her to speak to for quite a while, but have seen carers coming to her house several times each day, and last year, for the first time ever, we didn`t get a card. I put this year`s through her door a few days ago, and yesterday a lady knocked on our door, said she was Gwen`s daughter, thanked us for sending her mum a card, but told us that unfortunately she`s now, at the age of 93, suffering dementia, and is at the moment in respite care. I t was so sad hearing this, like I said, we`ve never been in and out of each others houses, but have always got on, and she was wonderful for her age, much more sprightly than me, even rode a pushbike into town until a couple of years ago!

I've lost count of who's feeling poorly at the moment, so if you are, I hope you will all be better by Christmas day. On Tuesday, Christmas begins for me - off to stay with the Oxfordshire family; next week, a few days in Berkshire with the others. I'll try to keep in touch occasionally.

Galen, 'have some Madeira, m'dear'!

Nelliemoser Sun 20-Dec-15 23:32:53

Hello poor poorly people.
This time last week I had what I thought was raging toothache. On Wednesday I woke up feeling sick and fluey and slept the day away. Today is the first day I no longer felt really tired and fuzzy headed.

I did have my flu jab, whether my poorly was a less harsh version because of the jab I don't know. Keep well.

I'm feeling pleased that Alea's wedding photos are here for us lot to ooh and ahh over.

Sorry to have to dash. I've been clearing bookshelves and the day has evaporated. I shall return tomorrow, after the visit to the care home.

Lovely warm day in Madeira. Went for a swim in the therapy pool this am. First swim I've had for years. Didn't bother to go ashore. Just sunbathed on my balcony with vodka and tonic Lovely warm day in Madeira. Went for a swim in the therapy pool this am. First swim I've had for years. Didn't bother to go ashore. Duck à l'orange tonight and I've chosen a Zinfandel to go with it!

Glad you enjoyed a nice swim. We were in Madeira in October and I'd like to go back. Enjoy tonight's Zinfandel. The duck too, of course wine. Hope the storms were not too bad.

loopylou Mon 21-Dec-15 21:05:29

Lovely photos Alea!

Galen......treble vodkas +treble Chianti + Zinfadel isn't quite what was meant by 'raising your spirits', just a little too literal? Sounds like you're having a whale of a good time tchgrin Cheers!

Well, I'm fifty-twelve today, DGS has just sung 'happy birthday to Nonna' on FaceTime and I'm feeling ?
