Feeling down now-wish I'd made arrangements for tonight now.

I was perfectly happy to stay at home and go to bed this evening - I've been been frantically busy for weeks, asthma not too great because I'm tired, DH also had upset innards over past two days so common sense prevailed. Then I watched an old recording of Edinburgh Tattoo with massed pipe bands and now I'm miserable. Half the family is 100 miles north and the rest are 70 miles south. Feel like jumping in car and heading south to surprise them at midnight but know I'd be shattered. Couldn't even stay as they're having big party so all rooms spoken for. Why did I have to be sensible??

Oh poop, managed to get 'now' in title twice. It will just sit there and glare at me unforgivingly until thread falls off the bottom.

rubylady Thu 31-Dec-15 22:03:09

Don't worry Katek you are not on your own. I'm staying in too. I've just made our celebration meal as Christmas was a wipe out, and my son ate it and then disappeared back upstairs. I do wonder why I bother.

I am in also for the fireworks and my doggie, but I might try to get out next year as I've stayed in for many years now on New Years due to children. We've been to house parties but it's not the same if the kids are there, you can't relax properly. So, next year, bring it on!

At least we are not stood four deep at a bar, being eyed up by the weirdo, seeing people being sick, getting a kabab on the way home, oh, it does sound good, lol.

Happy New Year to you, have a drink and put Bryan Adams on and have a sing-a-long. grin

Nelliemoser Thu 31-Dec-15 22:05:37

I really don't care about new year. I am shattered I could do with an early night but I expect there will be lots of noisy fireworks.

Katek Thu 31-Dec-15 22:17:14

tchgrin rubylady! There are advantages to staying at home when you put it like that! Will have a cough-a-long to some good songs and eat Xmas chocs. No sign of any fireworks yet Nelliemoser, prob too early.

NanKate Thu 31-Dec-15 22:17:54

I am in bed with my feet on the hottie. Have my IPad, radio, tv and book at the ready. Part way through a Sudoku.

DH pottering about downstairs as always.

Have absolutely no desire to go out and celebrate NYE.

Happy New Year folks and thanks for your company in 2015. tchgrin

We just took a nice walk round the park there were already lots of fireworks what is it with people? let fireworks off at midnight but at 8/9 o'clock? Why? I wasn't going to stay up but I know I'll be woken again at midnight so may as well just hang on.

Gaggi3 Thu 31-Dec-15 22:21:47

Take heart, Katek, it's just another day/night and there will be other good times, it doesn't have to be now. We're at home and have just watched E.T, hardly the height of glamour. Just glad to be around , seeing our children and grandchildren grow and prosper, and enjoying reasonable health, when once that didn't seem possible.

rubylady Thu 31-Dec-15 22:22:07

It is a pity we don't arrange meet ups on nights like this. Or even sleepovers, just so people aren't on their own if they don't want to be at Christmas or New Year. smile

Katek Thu 31-Dec-15 22:24:14

It's not so much celebrating NY as missing my family on a celebratory occasion. First time we've not been with one or another of them at NY

Luckygirl Thu 31-Dec-15 22:25:53

It's just us two here as well - it's just another day really. We're watching a sloppy film about a singing group called the Sapphires - 4 aboriginal girls who go to Vietnam to entertain the troops. Total bollocks of course, but we are enjoying it.

Don't be down Katek - there is so much pressure to celebrate these dates and those of us who are not out partying are made to feel second rate - we are leaving the young'uns party till dawn!

Resist the pressure! Enjoy your quiet time and happy new year to you and yours.

Alea Thu 31-Dec-15 22:27:41

It is just one night although the massed pipes and drums would have had me snivelling too tchsmile
The drink fuelled sentimental claptrap of HAPPEE NOO YEARS is a million miles away from thinking of family and friends. Just because you can't be with them in body doesn't mean you are not with them in spirit, so a Happy New Year to all of you and yours winewine [dram] emoticon.

MiniMouse Thu 31-Dec-15 22:38:48

We stayed home, too! ☕️? and in a few minutes it'll be ???? We know how to party ???

vegasmags Thu 31-Dec-15 22:41:33

Well, I've been on my own tonight but very contentedly. I had the company of a friend this afternoon and I have been invited out tomorrow. I know that my DC and their families are celebrating in their respective fashions and I've had a couple of nice phone chats with friends tonight. I cooked a lovely meal and have worked my way through a bottle of red wine.

Think of the upside - no frightful hangover tomorrow, no party debris to clear up, no wondering what you'd said or done in your cups.

A happy new year to one and all.

merlotgran Thu 31-Dec-15 22:42:25

Just the two of us here. Went to Homebase today to get some plumbing thingies for the washing machine then helped DD unpack her kitchen stuff all afternoon so now we're slumped in front of the telly.

The Mrs. Brown movie is shite disappointing so we'll be dipping in and out of Jools and Bryan Adams later.

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone smile

PS How's Grace, Alea?

Alea Thu 31-Dec-15 22:47:01

She was very sorry for herself, very wobbly when I picked her up and just lay on her bed giving me pathetic looks, whimpering and moaning. She has perked up a bit now but I worry that the inevitable fireworks tonight will make her unhappy.
Her tail looks dreadful, 1/3 has been amputated and another 2" beyond that shaved so that it looks like a trimmed cutlet! I expect it will be fine once the fur starts to grow again -hope so!!

Nelliemoser Thu 31-Dec-15 22:48:21

Happy new year all. I am not going to deliberately stay up for NY but I might try and do a bit more of my jigsaw puzzle.

Katek Thu 31-Dec-15 22:51:57

Wise words ladies, wise words indeed. It is only a day, dd's house will be packed with dozens in various stages of inebriation, I wouldn't be able to talk to anyone because of the noise, I'd eat too many nibbles and hate myself in the morning. It was just this that set me off-sorry to those who aren't fond of the pipes

annsixty Thu 31-Dec-15 22:52:28

Started watching Mrs Brown's boys which lasted about 6 minutes and am now in bed. Hope the fireworks aren't too noisy. Good wishes to everyone staying up and a peaceful night to everyone else.

rubylady Thu 31-Dec-15 22:58:30

Excellent film starting now on BBC 4, Made in Dagenham, fantastic. A good feel good film if you don't want all the NY stuff and brilliant actresses, oh and Bob Hoskins! lol grin

Happy New Year, signing off watching this, beats Jools and Graham tonight. Have a good 'un. Lots of love. X

grumppa Thu 31-Dec-15 23:03:54

Alone at last with Mrs. Grumppa after a family Christmas. Avocado, steak, Christmas pudding, mince pies, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, coffee, Armagnac. Graham Norton and guests on the box, malt whisky ready for midnight - who could ask for anything more?

annsixty Thu 31-Dec-15 23:09:19

A very bad head perhaps? But enjoy every minute of it. Just jealous.

merlotgran Thu 31-Dec-15 23:09:22

Blimey, grumppa. Lucky Mrs. G. Can we all come round?

grumppa Thu 31-Dec-15 23:11:49

And I've just discovered Miss World 2015 on the London Live channel. Come back the Morleys - all is forgiven!

harrigran Thu 31-Dec-15 23:26:38

DH and I stopping in, as we do every year, celebrations don't bother us. Everyone in our family is poorly so we are all in our own homes except for DS who is out Aurora chasing. Happy New Year because I won't be here at midnight.
