House name

We are hoping to move house to a bungalow in the next few weeks - I am hedging my bets here as I do not want to get my hopes too high and have it all fall through!

The bungalow is lovely except for its name, which is very twee and has "Y"s where "I"s should be. Not our kind of thing at all. We would like to give it a new name - probably based on the lovely big maple tree in the front garden.

Any idea for names? - I'm thinking Maple Lodge at the moment.

And has anyone ever changed their house name and was it an easy process?

It is not on a street, nor are any of the houses numbered - just names.

Not that I'm implying there was anything romantic about WW2.

The Maples sounds perfect, good luck and many happy years in your new home.

Hope it all goes through without a hitch Luckygirl smile
I like a house to have a name, it makes it feel that it belongs to you more in a funny sort of way. I like 'The Maples' and 'Maplewood' and to cover all eventualities you could always plant one or two other Maple trees if you have enough space.

I lived in a house once with the name "Tregurno" carved on a stone lintel above the door. Must have meant happy memories for a previous owner because none of the other houses had names. it was a house that deserved to have a name and I still miss it.

We are considering naming our bungalow 'The Cathouse'as we have seven cats, but heaven knows what the neighbours would think!

The very first house we bought was next door to a house called 'Catbells' grin

We changed the name of our house when we moved in, three years on and some mailing lists still don't have the new name. A good deal of post got lost in the early days which was frustrating. (There is no number).
I always thought a house only having a name was cool, but actually it's a bit of a pain as you always have to describe where it is, as there is no reference point in regards to numbers.....

Smiling at Rose Cottage. When a dear friend, no longer with us, married Mr White her name and his came together neatly as White Rose Cottage. Lovely, complete with white roses.
She can't have known about the naval slang (she would have said!!) but would be especially amused since she was a doctor who worked in sexual health clinics.

"Catbells" is a Lakeland fell/mountain near Keswick Ana so maybe the people who named the house had been fell walkers?

Doesn't 'Cathouse' also have unfortunate connotations?

I think Catbells was Wainwright's favourite and where his ashes were scattered.

Ive always had a dream of naming a house ,'Rosebay Willowherb cottage', however I was told that this is a weed and anyway I live in an ex council house so naming it is a bit pretentious. I can only dream.

I used to be an ambulance first-responder in our village. Trying to find the correct house in the dark, when it only has a name, or, no name or number can take several valuable minutes which could make all the difference to a patient 's survival.
