Feeling rather sorry for The Queen

We seem to have strayed a bit from the original subject but ..... all those holidays.
It is not all good. One of the saddest pieces of royal footage I have ever seen was the Queen at the decommissioning of the Royal Yacht Britannia. (Just one of Blair's sins. Yes, yes totally off subject I know!)
Much as we love to see the Queen showing some emotion, this one I find very hard to watch.

When the Queen holidays at ­Balmoral every summer the Met sends dozens of uniformed officers to Scotland. Grampian Police also use their own patrols and armed ­response vehicles...all at a cost to the taxpayer.

Grampian Police have calculated the cost at £1.2m per year.

The police protection when they are in Balmoral is very heavy ,I expect the poor Scots are terrified of an incident , the wrath of some would descend on them

I meant they are not charging the taxpayer for their holidays, jut to clarify.

She stays in her own private homes and presumably uses her own private wealth for her holidays.

I sincerely hope she does enjoy her holidays, they are costing the taxpayer enough but to accuse people of having a chip on their shoulder is offensive.

I don't see people as being miserable because they disagree with me and to assume they have a chip on their shoulder infers an ingrained feeling of resentment deriving from a sense of inferiority and sometimes marked by aggressive behaviour. I haven't interpreted that from any of these posts...or have I missed something?

The queen doesn't have to do what she does she could abdicate, get rid of the pomp, give away all her worldly wealth and decamp to a council estate, if there are any left these days, as portrayed by Sue Townsend.

Just to go back to postings on Saturday about the blond boy in the sailor suit on the balcony, I'm fairly sure he would have been one of Lord and Lady Nicholas Windsor's boys who are both very fair haired. Therefore part of the family. I think many of the youngsters there were grandchildren of the royal cousins. (Gloucesters, Kents etc.)

I've never given a stuff about the length of the Queen's holidays. They are understated affairs and obviously give her much needed privacy. Her 'holiday homes' provide employment for many as well as generating income from tourists.

We don't know what paperwork she wades through, we are told she does Jingle. We just do not know very much about them only what the palace PR machine tells us and the usual film shots of her sitting at her desk. Her holidays we do know of, Scotland in the summer, Sandringham Christmas untill February. Windsor Ascot week , Easter and Whitsun etc.

She was born into the job. Just because others fell by the wayside so that it came to her indirectly, doesn't change anything.

Who wades through all that paperwork when she takes these five months holidays? Are we sure it doesn't get sent to her?

If being monarch is such a 'thankless task' - why do we persist in having one at this level. Surely in these days of 'austerity' it should be trimmed won a bit.

The monarchy brings no more or no less business into the UK - even from a tourism perspective - than most of us do, since we work as volunteers in stately homes, charitable organisations supporting historical buildings, etc., etc.

On the topic of the service on Friday - to me the music gave the impression it was a funeral, and I'd missed the news about some VIP passing away.

Just why is speaking of the Windsor holidays and homes and privalages dismissed as - the same old yet far more posts about the wonders of the windsors not the same old ?

And queenie was not born into the job , suppose still believe she really was chosen by God

Anniebach is incabable of changing the record and will keep on playing it until people ignore her. It's the same old, same old. 'Queenie', holidays, homes etc., etc., blah blah blah.

Annie, I don't want to start an argument with you, but she was born into ' The Job', and has got on with it remarkably well. I wouldn't want to have to do what she does, at her age especially. She has served us admirably, and having one's every move, sigh and blink, catalogued and discussed by all and sundry everywhere, must be appalling.
I admire her and thank her for her somewhat thankless task , even if she does have five months holiday every year. and a glass or three of to her. Happy belated birthday your majesty

We are expected to ignore queenie takes about five months holiday every year , and we are expected to accept how much this family care for the people of this country, don't question why they need over fifteen homes whilst there are homeless sleeping on the streets .

We went to a lunch for a lady yesterday who is 100 today. Doing extremely well but apparently spends a lot of time alone, mornings and evenings.
Wonder if the queen does too?
