does leaving the EU mean we will get proper light bulbs back?

Greyduster Fri 24-Jun-16 10:30:36

Possibly, but it may mean that you can't afford to switch the lights on! ?

ninathenana Fri 24-Jun-16 10:31:02

Is that your major concern ?

Nonnie1 Fri 24-Jun-16 11:21:14

Will we be able to buy a packet of nuts without a 'may contain nuts' warning now!

aggie Fri 24-Jun-16 11:23:01

And go back to manky beaches with no warnings ?

Jenty61 Fri 24-Jun-16 11:43:35

will cables on electrical goods be longer?

Nelliemoser Fri 24-Jun-16 11:52:06

Have all you Brexiters calculated how much money you have lost on any savings you may have?

Talk about walking into the dark with your eyes tight shut.
Have you thought about how much more expensive things are going to be right away because of the crash in the value of the pound.

NonnaW Fri 24-Jun-16 11:57:13

I think this was meant to be a lighthearted thread!

sunseeker Fri 24-Jun-16 12:03:16

That went over the heads of the doomsayers NonnaW. I have been watching the markets which now seem to be making a bit of a recovery (going down and up again). It was always expected that the initial shock would cause a fall in the pound and share prices. I am not an expert (unlike some of the posters on GN) but I think we should remain calm and wait and see.

Floradora9 Fri 24-Jun-16 12:03:22

There can be nothing to be lighthearted about regarding this vote. It will almost certainly mean the break up of the United Kingdom . The SNP has a very good case to ask for a second independance referendum and they will win this time for sure . This brings me no joy at all but so many Scots will be sickened to have voted to stay yet are being taken out . Anyone wanting a little England will get one as Ireland will not be far behind think of the logistics of a border in Ireland with one half out and one in. At least the majority in Wales voted to leave so they will stay with England . This makes me so sad .

Jenty61 Fri 24-Jun-16 12:07:46

why keep speculating its far too early to know what is going to happen!!

granjura Fri 24-Jun-16 12:22:50

Floradora, Nicola Sturgeon has already announced a new referendum. Jenty61, it took seconds for the international markets to respond, for the £ to fall, and a lot more.

AlieOxon Fri 24-Jun-16 12:31:39

I feel like xenophobia won.

ninathenana Fri 24-Jun-16 12:59:23

NonnaW it seems too many people have such strong feelings (not condemning that) about it all that it's impossible to have a light hearted thread sad
There are plenty of threads to air your opinions people.
It's done now. We've just got to suck it up.

Marty Fri 24-Jun-16 13:04:21

I am sure that not everyone who voted 'out' are xenophobic. Keep calm and carry on. In a couple of days things will have settled down a bit - and the markets.

NanaandGrampy Fri 24-Jun-16 13:05:21

I totally agree Nina .

The sun came up today , Tesco's is open , its business as usual.

There will be ups and downs and bumpy roads ahead no doubt but I for one am sick of people who voted differently from me ramming their view down my throat. Trust me I did my homework and as a member of a democracy I was allowed to vote- without fear or favour ( or the approval of GNetters) - as I see fit.

As did everyone else.

Now we have to wait and see how this will work, what it will mean etc . I think a little humour on the way is allowed because I for one am not wasting the time I have left on gods green earth revisiting something that will not change.

If the vote had gone the other way I would not now personally be jumping on every thread to voice my displeasure. I would take it that we had followed the majority vote.

peaceatlast Fri 24-Jun-16 13:27:23

Hell in a handcart comes to mind

willsmadnan Fri 24-Jun-16 13:27:49

I will be worse off than most of you on this forum.... living in the EU, on just a single UK state pension. Am I down-hearted? No , life's too short. Those of you whingeing on about your super-annuated pensions..... stop listening to the prophets of doom, especially BBC rolling news. The sun is shining, I'm off for walk (while I can still put one foot in front of the other) and not expecting the sky to fall in while I'm out.

Ceesnan Fri 24-Jun-16 13:32:02

willsmadnan thank you! The voice of common sense flowers

Nonnie1 Fri 24-Jun-16 13:34:18

willsmadnan I'll second that !

harrigran Fri 24-Jun-16 13:35:31

willsmadnan flowers

FloNightingale Fri 24-Jun-16 14:00:42

So true Nina NanaandGrampy and Willsmadnan. Democracy has created an exciting if scarey leap into the future and given all our politicians a swift kick. Everyone might get a sense of humour back when things have settled down. Hair dryers were next on the hit list I believe. smile

NanaandGrampy Fri 24-Jun-16 14:10:21

I imagine this is how people felt when we last had this type of referendum and the majority spoke... we made it another 40 odd years :-)

rosesarered Fri 24-Jun-16 14:35:05

nanaandgrampy smile loved your long post, also a good one willsmadnan smile
Life goes on.... And hopefully now for the better, even if it takes a long time to sort out.
I won't be reading or commenting on all the threads full of anger and bitterness, because I knew it would be like this if we exited the EU.

FloNightingale Fri 24-Jun-16 14:38:34

It was for us in 1975. Common Market not European Community/federal Europe though. Even lived in Germany with family for seven years. New beginnings now another era.
