.I thought my stomach was in my tummy.

What has made you embarrassed?

Anya Sat 03-Sep-16 14:00:53

Abdomen

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 03-Sep-16 14:08:06

Oh yeah. I'm talking about my abdomen all the time.

Anya Sat 03-Sep-16 14:11:16

I daren't even hazard a guess what you habitually talk through jingl or my post would be deleted for sure wink

TerriBull Sat 03-Sep-16 14:11:20

gastric or abdominal pain, I guess.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 03-Sep-16 14:17:31

Oh go on Anya. Give it a go. I'll read it quickly, before it gets deleted.

Elegran Sat 03-Sep-16 14:20:55

Pointing to the place where the pain is works pretty well - no chance of misunderstanding.

Anya Sat 03-Sep-16 14:30:52

Well jingl that also raises an interesting point in terminology re body parts.

Would you prefer bum or bottom or shall we use more technically appropriate terms such as 'anus'....I suppose we could go all Hyacinth Bucket and say derriére ????

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 03-Sep-16 14:38:50

I like bottie. smile

Haven't we already had a thread about that? confused

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 03-Sep-16 14:39:49

Arse is good in some contexts.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 03-Sep-16 14:40:07

Like, talking out of.

annodomini Sat 03-Sep-16 14:46:46

There are so many bits and pieces of one's 'innards' that it's difficult to tell a doctor just what's wrong. Could I go into the consulting room and say 'I have a pain in my duodenum/gall bladder/spleen/...' without some specialist knowledge which is why we use general terms like 'tummy' or 'stomach' and leave it to the doctor to prod about a bit and make a diagnosis.

Anya Sat 03-Sep-16 14:46:49

Your arse is perfect jingl , exactly right.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 03-Sep-16 14:51:06

I have no idea where my spleen is. Or what it does. Or what a pain in it would feel like.

Please don't anybody tell me.

Anya Sat 03-Sep-16 14:52:50

Better not vent it then....

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 03-Sep-16 14:58:58

If you have a ruptured spleen and you lie down and raise your legs, the pain will be felt in the tip of your left shoulder.

Acknowledgements to Dr Google.

Ana Sat 03-Sep-16 15:03:18

So if you avoid lying down and raising your legs you're fine? confused

annodomini Sat 03-Sep-16 15:04:18

And you might be bleeding to death. Or don't you watch Casualty?

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 03-Sep-16 15:06:02

It doesn't cause it. It's diagnostic.

Yes. Watch cas. Don't learn much though.

annodomini Sat 03-Sep-16 15:22:23

24 Hours in A&E is much better because it's real. Not on at the moment.

Jalima Sat 03-Sep-16 16:15:58

I had an ache in my -- intestinal area-- tummy the other day.

Perhaps I should have got Charlie Fairhead to look at it.
