I'm a happy soul this morning, had eight hours sleep, unheard of but it does make a difference! Sun is shining here but I believe that isn't the case further North so hope all are warm and dry.
Charley, Our 'boxy thing' is Mr C's very expensive Bose system (getting on a bit now). it stores all the music (no idea how), works as surround sound, radio and DVD player. Sadly doesn't make the tea. It seems to be accessing everything but no sound comes out. Oops! Have persuaded Mr C his world hasn't ended, we can still play dvd's and just use the tv for sound and there are other ways of listening to music. It was just a bit much with two ratty children and a stressing Mr C! We have a plan, Bose help line for advice and if all else fails pack it up and take it to an expert. But not until after Christmas! There was a local 'expert' near our previous home who sold us the wretched thing who would come to us if needed, there isn't one here. It isnt important in the scheme of things. No one has been harmed! Hope your kitchen remains dry, water leaks are the very devil. Will try more laundry later, the washing machine is old, we inherited it with the bungalow when we moved, so far it has worked well, hoping the issue yesterday was just a blip. If not will deal with it next week. No more stresses allowed now!
You aren't alone with ironing knickers and tea towels callgirl, have always done it. It seems not everyone does
. Sounds as if health challenges are surrounding you Daphne, but the plans for Christmas and beyond sound just right. Your son in law is a gem and you have thought of everyone's needs.
Best get on. Cleaning today and if I'm not careful my slow start will turn into a slow day. It seems we are having a family day here middle of next week, so delighted as we didnt think work commitments would allow. Feeding them all will be a challenge, we'll cope and they will help. Lovely treat. Have a good day all, keep warm, dry and well.

JOLLY GOOD COMPANY
Welcome...
Really silly observation charleygirl but is it possible something was stuck in the rubber gasket thingy -maybe a sock- which breached the seal? This suggestion from the person who called out "the man" to a dead tumble drier only to find the plug round the back had got slightly dislodged! Bless him, he didn't charge me anything
Good Morning all !
I am enjoying an hours peace and quiet as I have sent Grampy off to M & S for last minute unnecessary necessary items
.
The world Daphne as my Gran would say , has gone to hell in a handbasket. I feel for our children and our grandchildren.
Good to see your birthday news WB !! Shame about the ukulele
Bon voyage Galen I hope you have a wonderful time .
I'm sorry for your sad news soop , any time is bad but Christmas is exceptionally poignant.
Glad the machine is fixed Charley ! Long may it last. Those little imps certainly are excited . its a joy to see their unquestioning belief and how they reassure anyone they meet that they have been good !
Not that organised Corner I am like a swan....serene on the surface - paddling like crazy under water to simply stay afloat. I am blessed ??? with a lack of a stress bone and I rarely stress over things preferring to go with the ' what will be will be ' mantra ( doesn't always work of course
)
By this time tomorrow I hope to have my new car and my scooter back...but I have little faith after the past 6 months of over promising !!
We shall see
What a lovely card n&g! Hope they're arrives as promised.
Hope DH is feeling better by now Daphne. But, please look after yourself too over this stressful period. I hope your opposite number's family are taking all the help that Alzheimer's Society can offer - the CrISP programme for relatives is great
Glad you are feeling better today corner. Things do conspire to keep us awake don't they and a good night's sleep is to be celebrated I presumed the boxy thing has been switched off at the wall and then back on again?
Have a super cruise, Galen, I hope you feel like posting more when you get back. I miss you in the kitchen.
Sorry I missed your birthday Wb and sorry about your ukulele - maybe Mrs P is hinting
If anyone is offering to iron - I have plenty - no knickers but tea towels a plenty!
soop, I'm sorry to hear about your friends - it's something that happens as we age isn't it, but it gets no easier to deal with.
Crafting, I hope your brother is on the mend by now. My mum's home has a reoccurrence of the norovirus but mum is serenely ignoring it and eating anything and everything they put before her.
We did our meals on wheels run to Yorkshire yesterday which was really appreciated, As some of you know, my DSiL is somewhat depressed and matters were made worse by the fact that their dog had died on Tuesday.
I hope we cheered them up a little. BIL'S op seems to have been a success, so that is something.
Seems we have all been having an ironing-fest! I've just finished mine, mostly DS's chefs whites. He's working non-stop over the festive season so all his uniforms are clean and ready to go.
DD3 set off this morning to stay with DD1 in Minneapolis for two weeks. Flight to Heathrow had a 3 hour delay so she has been re-routed via Amsterdam and should arrive in the US the same time as scheduled.
I'm fighting a cold and have a very croaky voice, which I hadn't realised until I phoned to enquire about a side board I had ordered, and out came this silly little squeak
In case I don't pop in before, I would like to wish you all a very happy Christmas and all the best for 2017. Also, a big thank you to all who have offered such kindness and support through some difficult times. I appreciate you more than you know.
Daphne the machine man took out the seal and saw zilch wrong with it. He was even on his tum with a torch looking at he floor under the machine to see if there was any water there but again zilch. I was very impressed with him and although expensive he does offer the same day or next day service.
I went to an OPD clinic today to get my expensive compression stockings checked (£100+ a pair). I only have 2 pairs and silly me changes socks, tights daily and as these are in place of socks I expect to change them daily too but was told I could wear them for several days. The feet and toes are enclosed so I do not think so. Anyway I left there a happy bunny with a prescription to be sent to my GP etc for 3 more pairs. I am the only person who has complained!
N&G I loved the photo card of Jackson and Daphne I also liked the school Christmas card. There will be so many excited children around at present.
On board. Unpacked.waiting for lifeboat drill, then manicure
Charleyg I also iron knickers. And face-cloths and tea towels. It's what my nana and mother did so I follow suit. I do fig therapeutic. Just as well.
A very happy Christmas to dear tanith
Cornerg Every one of us needs to vent our frustration from time to time. It's only natural. Tesco was manic this morning. Loud music. Bustling shoppers. I find that being amongst so much mayhem a trifle overwhelming.
DaphneB As the weather forecast for tomorrow is dire, we did the Friday care home visit today. The residents with dementia, appear to be comfortable and cared for. I hope with all my heart that when my time comes, I go out with an almighty bang (not a long draw-out whimper)
We had a dental appointment this afternoon. The weather is atrocious. Between here and Tarbert, (10 miles) we happened across three accidents. Slush on the roads. Blustery wind. Occasional thunder and lightening. Hope to goodness that we do not have a power cut.
I was told of a wee girl whose family are going through a "difficult time". The doll that I won in the raffle, is going to her. I hope that she is thrilled.
NanaandGrampy and DaphneB
The cards are fabulous. Such talent!
Oh, kitty the very word novovirus is enough to put any care home or hospital in a spin. The care home in Campbeltown was closed to visitors for about ten days last year.
Bellasnana Take good care of yourself. Greetings from Kintyre. PLEASE may 2017 be kind to you and those we love. It would be wonderful to have happy celebrations for us all to enjoy and share.
Charleyg Three pairs of prescription compression stockings is a mighty big bonus.
Galen Happy sailing. We're all hoping to see you glammed-up and wearing those pearls.
The computer is paying silly b's. It could be that the weather is needling it. I typed 'I do find ironing therapeutic...' Figs don't come into it.
The lights are flickering. I'm on edge. Could mean that a power cut is inevitable. I hope not. I shall do my best to pop in again tomorrow.
(((Hugs))) for every one of you.

Hope you stayed connected Soop!
I`ve just cleared out a cupboard in the kitchen, one of those cupboards where anything and everything gets shoved in, and hardly ever gets a sort out. I found David`s silver Coronation spoon that he was given at school in 1953, still as shiny and new as the day he was given it, and still in it`s presentation box. Must make sure it doesn`t disappear again.
Oh soop and everyone north and west of Manchester, I fear you are in for wild times, do keep hunkered down and safe. Make sure you know where your candles and torches are and that you have the means to cook a hot meal.
Not funny is it, so good wishes to all who may be meeting Barbara over the next 48 hours.
I hope things don't get too bad up there - talking to my sister in Edinburgh yesterday, she said a hurricane was predicted. Hunker down!
I can't get up any enthusiasm for this coming holiday.
Feel just the same Nellie so sympathy from me to you.
Oh annsixty and nelliemoser it is so hard when the rest of the world seems to be full of ho Ho Ho and forced jollity.
I do hope you get to enjoy the company of the little ones before too long, Christmas Day is only a date after all. Feeling for you
Love the Christmas card images, it must be difficult nellie, ann and all those who are finding this Christmas a struggle. I hope you are able to find some contentment. All good wishes bellasnana, Hope the cold soon leaves you,
It sounds as if Barbara will give many a hard time, please anyone in her path do take the utmost care, stay warm and dry and hopefully with light.
Have you found a safe place for the spoon, callgirl? A very special find.
Happy sailing , galen, you will be well underway by now, wishing you calm seas.
The box thingy continues to refuse to make a sound in spite of our ministrations, it is now firmly in disgrace in a corner with its back to the room. Oh that the children would emulate it!
The cleaning was put on hold in favour of an impromptu bus trip to a biggish town, crazy I guess but I like the crowds and lights when I don't need to shop and can just wander. So tomorrow I clean
Take care all, keep safe.
I agree callgirl please keep an eye on it from now on.
corner any child aged 6-10 year old would probably know how to fix that thingy.
My cleaner has gone on holiday for 3 weeks so I am going to have to wield a hoover around tomorrow. I still have not finished with the decluttering of my bedroom.
Galen a life on the ocean wave- if only for a week or 10 days sounds great.
I will be looking after my neighbours and friends house for a week or so- they are very trusting. I could easily rent it.
I will be on my own but can do what I want when I want although a lie in with Tara around is not on the cards.
Tonight OH decided to cook the wing rib joint intended for Christmas Day. We bought it a few days ago and thought it would keep well in the fridge but it was beginning to smell a bit meaty. It looks (and tastes) delicious but I'm not sure how to resurrect it if we slice it up and freeze it. We had a little taste of the dripping too -used to eat it on toast with a liberal sprinkling of salt. Yum, yum.
Had two lovely days with the DGs. They really enjoyed the ice-skating and hardly fell over at all. Great fun having them to stay but I fell asleep within minutes of them going home this evening.
Bread and dripping! Yum, yum thrice yum!!
How about just reheating the sliced beef in some gravy in the oven?
Know what you mean about "meaty", sometimes you have to hold your nerve!!
Lovely picture
We used to have bread and turkey dripping in the evening on Christmas Day. Beef dripping was a favourite of my parents. Those were the days
.
Hope storm Barbara won't cause you any problems soop. Sorry to hear the sad news about the loss of your friends. Also, here's hoping that 2017 will be a better year for everyone that's been having a difficult time this year.
Thank goodness that we have passed the shortest day and Spring is on it's way!
DB Thanks for the tip about reheating the beef. I'll make a pan of proper gravy from all the lovely crispy bits in the bottom of the roasting tin (mouth watering at the thought
. Have got a bit idle in recent years and resorted to using gravy granules but the gravy isn't a patch on the real thing.
