I don't believe in being ill! (Or old)

soop Tue 06-Dec-16 12:06:04

Good morning lovely peeps. Grey, damp, blustery weather. For only the second time in two years I have not visited the care home ladies. They have a tendency to get days mixed up, so perhaps they won't notice.wink

Galen Dear Galen, what to say that will help to lessen your dreaded lurgie death-throws. You are a tough old bird lady. Spirited too. You MUST recover in time for the boat trip. The crew must be counting the days until they pipe you aboard. grin

Bellasnana How lovely for you and Lona. Us lot would love to muscle invite ourselves in for a brew and cupcake and lots of laughter.

DaphneB Thanks for putting a grin on my face.

ann and anno

soop Tue 06-Dec-16 12:09:35

ann and anno I was about to say, that whenever we visit family, we always return home with some strange bug or other. Mind you, they are excused. The internet flickered as I was about to send the post. A temporary blip. I hope.

soop Tue 06-Dec-16 12:15:55

NanaandGrampy Very droll...grin

millymouge You most definitely are NOT a moaner. You have buggerations to deal with, as have most of us. From time to time we all need a virtual hug. Therefore, here is a (((hug)))specially designed for you.

I hope to start a new portrait this afternoon. I managed to botch the first two attempts in spectacular fashion.

Crafting Tue 06-Dec-16 13:52:32

Galen are you sure you didn't get it from Gary? hmm. Hope you are truly over it and well for your next cruise ?. Have a wee dram or two.

wobbly good news about your hip op. Will it make you less wobbly? (silly me, wrong bits blush)

soop hope you feel better soon. I'm sure the care home ladies will miss you but you need to get yourself well. ?

Bella and Lona, hope you have a great time together smile

Galen Tue 06-Dec-16 14:21:10

Certainly not!

soop Tue 06-Dec-16 14:41:35

Crafting Our Galen doesn't consort with the type of individual whose close proximity results in man-flu. Goes without saying that her Gary is most def germ free.

Tizliz Tue 06-Dec-16 18:43:16

I am so bored. The car that has the dog crates in is sick and the garage does not seem to understand the urgency. OH has been to work in our new car but the dogs find it too high to get in. So I have been at home dog sitting and working on the accounts which is not my favourite job, and now finished. It is too cold to garden. Tomorrow I am going in to work and leaving the dogs for a few hours as OH has a problem with the cnc programming (deja vu). All the ironing is done, the house is clean(ish). I might be reduced to spring cleaning ??

kittylester Wed 07-Dec-16 07:36:55

Good morning it's very quiet in here - I'll put the kettle on.

I'm completely jiggered so having a lazy start but then I'm hoping to finish the present shopping today, post the Christmas cards and make a start on the wrapping up. Tizliz please feel free to help if you are bored.

Soop you are sounding brighter - I hope you are feeling better. You too Galen, I thought Db's post was apt! grin

I hope Lona and Bella had a fabulous meet up and gave each other a huge hug from us!

Great news about your hip Wobbly, will that make you more or less wobbly?

milly, as soop says, you have lots of things going on - where better than the kitchen to get them off your chest? flowers

I'm just going to post a photo of 4 year old Bertie, who was awarded 'best Player' at his football club. He was beside himself with pride.

cornergran Wed 07-Dec-16 07:54:14

Good Morning.

Trying to catch up after littlest-minding, it was exhausting but so much fun. Can understand the frustration with the garage tizliz, hope your car is back with you today. Major pain

Soop, are you better? Starting a new portrait sounds really positive if you are really up to it but not visiting the care home makes me wonder if you are still feeling horrid.

My sympathies Galen, it is the worst time of year to feel rotten. At least the cruise lines don't interrogate about whatever type of flu in the way they do about tummy upsets. The germs will leave you before boarding. There is time!

My regular buggeration the sore throat is back, littlest had the runniest nose in the country (guaranteed grin) but I don't think I can blame him, it is bad timing though. I will do my best to ignore it and have a catch up day today, off visiting our friend tomorrow who also has a cold, we can grumble together. Lots of pre Christmas enjoyable things on the horizon, nothing will be allowed to get between me and them smile. Am committed to a chunk of volunteering at the weekend, so please all cross your fingers for a quick eviction this time!

Bella and Lona will have met by now (I think) how lovely for you both

Apologies for all the things I have undoubtedly missed. Can I blame the sore throats, please? hmm.

cornergran Wed 07-Dec-16 07:58:52

kitty, just seen your post. What a proud young man. Isn't it lovely to see the little ones bloom? Could do with that cuppa, Mr C is still snoring, I mean breathing heavily grin, so this morning's tea run seems to be delayed, will enjoy one here.

How could I have forgotten your hip wobbly, a neighbour only waited a few weeks for her operation once referred, had a good choice of location too, hope it is the same for you. Keep positive smile.

DaphneBroon Wed 07-Dec-16 07:59:37

???
Well done Bertie!! You must be very proud
It's barely light here - surely it's not Midwinter yet? Bleak enough though.
Felt very torn last night as I had arranged to pick up DD2 and Flynn from London on Friday and bring them up to us for the weekend, then DD1 rang to say she had a spare ticket for the DGS' Nativity play (both in the same one for the last time until they are both in the upper school) and DGS1 is Joseph! On FRIDAY. In Birmingham. Oh what was a Granny to do?
Fortunately DD2 seemed happy to reschedule for Saturday (and actually I prefer the thought of NOT being on the M25 on a Friday afternoon) so apart from clocking up 300 miles in 2 days I have got it sorted. I think.

NanaandGrampy Wed 07-Dec-16 08:54:30

Morning all !

Hope you're feeling a little better today soop and if you are don't go full speed. A little rest will not do you any harm at all !!

nooooooooo * Tizliz* no spring cleaning....come to my house and do mine instead smile

Kitty how proud does young Bertie look - very well done !!! I love to share in the grandchildren's highs ( and lows ) [laugh]

How lovely to be meeting in real life Bella and Lona - I hope to hear all about it when I return from an epic trip to Bluewater. Its somewhere I do love as its all indoors so makes it supper easy for me and my scooter. It also gives Grampy a serious bit of exercise as I head off and he has to keep up !![wink}

Oh I am totally envious Daphne . It is Jacksons nativity today and I sooo wanted to see it but it is only 2 tickets per family so I shall have to wait for pictures and for him to tell me how it went.

I asked my daughter to mention to the PTA that an extra performance where tickets are sold would not only raise money but let people like me who would be happy to pay see our grandchildren's plays etc.

Just thought I would add a couple of pictures of Jacksons recent birthday cake. NOT made by me but by a very talented young friend of the family- as you know Jackson is car mad and this is hot wheels themed.

Have a good day one and all x

Greyduster Wed 07-Dec-16 08:58:45

Kitty I'm sure it will be the first of many. You'll have the joy of watching him improve his skills as he grows. Congratulations, Bertie! I was sad to see yesterday that our neighbour's have a sale sign up on their house. My heart did sink a bit but it was not entirely a surprise - they are relatively young and, having seen their girls grow up and move out, they are now looking for a "project". Shame though; they are lovely people. It's been a real pleasure to live next door to them, which is more than could be said for our last n.d.n! Hey ho! Like the new kitchen, soop - look forward to dropping in again!

annodomini Wed 07-Dec-16 10:00:55

kitty, what a lovely and talented little boy Bertie is. The main downside of having a football/hockey/rugby player in the family is shivering on the touchline on a winter morning. We do it for love, don't we? My 11-year-old footballer is out of action for the time being because he had to have a huge abscess in his armpit drained ten days ago.
I hope you really are on the mend, soop. There are a lot of viruses around at this time of year and the flu vaccine doesn't protect us from all of them. x

kittylester Wed 07-Dec-16 14:09:24

Ouch for your grandson Anno.

I'm so pleased that my days of carting muddy boys all over the county are over. I didn't mind netball so much though watching all my children's sport was freezing - except the boys cricket which was just boring. Please don't tell them I said so.

Now, we turn up to the dgc things if the weather is ok and then they are really pleased to see us!

DGS1 has just joined a new team and they count it as a success if they lose by less than ten goals.grin

Hope your new neighbours are as nice as the ones who are leaving Greyduster

Result Db - enjoy! Hope the hospital visit goes well.

soop Wed 07-Dec-16 14:12:20

Tizliz I've just returned from my weekly ironing duty for a friend who lives in the village. I'm no better. MacSporran picked me up and I shall be returning to my bed soonish.

kitty The photograph of award-winner Bertie is lovely. I love his smile. Well done, young man.

corner A hug for you. x

DaphneB What a last minute Grannie dilemma. Thank goodness that you've been able to sort out what to do and when to do it.

NanaandGrampy Jackson's birthday cake is a work of art. Amazing detail! Torben adores Hot Wheels cars. I'm browsing the internet for a few "way out" models.

Greyduster I know how you are feeling...our lovely neighbour won't be returning home. He's in care. His home is on the market. We miss him every single day.

anno I very much hope that your 11-year-old footballer is on the mend.

I'm away to my bed. Sorry to be so brief and thoroughly uninteresting. Take care and I hope to be back before too long.

rosesarered Wed 07-Dec-16 14:53:33

soop?
I just popped in to see if there were any warm mincecpies going?

thatbags Wed 07-Dec-16 15:36:02

Oh dear, soop! Perhaps you should have given the ironing a miss this week. I hope you are back in bed resting now flowers

Elegran Wed 07-Dec-16 15:48:27

soop will you ever learn!

Galen Wed 07-Dec-16 16:14:42

I'm afraid now that I might live after all.
The main problem is that I'm very breathless.
Last tribunal before my cruise! In Cardiff!
That means an early start to get there in time. I don't do early mornings very well at all?

Charleygirl Wed 07-Dec-16 16:37:18

soop I am quite cross with you- the last thing that you should have been doing today was ironing.

kitty what a lovely beaming smile thatyoung man has- you must all be very proud of him.

anno that sounds very painful, that poor young man. Hopefully he is now on the mend with the antibiotics having worked.

N&G do you think that Jackson could have a look at the lock on my car door please? Thanks. A beautiful cake, such a shame to spoil it.

Daphne at least you are getting the best of both worlds which is excellent.

corner have you been near too many children with runny noses recently?

Galen tomorrow will soon be over and you can sort out the pearls and dresses for the cruise.

I have signed the last paper of my LPA and it will be winging its way to court tomorrow. I have to keep alive a tad longer though until the court agrees that all is fine.

annodomini Wed 07-Dec-16 17:07:38

Galen, I for one am relieved to know you are going to survive. I hope you get over the breathlessness, but you're (were) the doctor!
soop, do yourself (and us) a favour! You shouldn't have been exhausting yourself with your ironing commitment. Nobody - not even you - is indispensable. Rest and stay resting, for goodness' sake!

TriciaF Wed 07-Dec-16 17:17:49

Galen - I know what you mean by 'don't do early mornings'. On of my reasons why I cancelled my visit 'home' this year.
Only you can judge whether you're capable, but it's a frustrating decision to make.
Soop - I don't think you're religious, but in any case I'm going to pray that somehow your health problem will be solved. It can't hurt!

cornergran Wed 07-Dec-16 17:32:03

Oh soop, please listen and rest at the very least, even if you won't seek more medical advice.

Charleygirl, how could you suggest the germs came from a child? They absolutely never share them with adults grin. Suspect this germ carrier was an adult, was invited into a house where everyone was sneezing, didn't realise until it was too late. I've decided it is 'nannaflu', the absolute worst type to get. sad.

Pleased you will live, Galen, the cruise will be ideal for recovery, if you have a magic cure could you share it, please? I have no patience with germs!

Neighbours are important greyduster, fingers crossed for lovely new ones for you. One of ours recently said they were worried when we moved in, theee years on they are still worried. Think he was joking hmm.

Take care everyone, stay warm and well.
