My father was a Lancaster bomber pilot in 1944 and was awarded the DFC. He never spoke of his time in the RAF. The men were told not to speak of their work and they didn't. However he wrote a daily journal about his tour of 30 ops in the Lancaster which I now have together with his medals and RAF log book.
