I need a new pair of jeans, I have always worn them , but hurtling towards 70years old I wonder if I can still wear jeans and then I can't decide on what style, I like the skinny look but I don't have skinny legs, I would love to look effortlessly chic in jeans ,What do other GN,s think?

I shall be 75 this May, and wear jeans, blush Not skinny ones you understand, the legs just wouldn't fit in. If I find some that fit, then I buy them, and yes, my bum probably does look very fat, but who cares. I go for comfort. I didn't wear jeans till I was 40, (shock, horror), but then I was away, and they are so comfy. smile

I am over 70 Lilypops and wear jeans all the time. Like others I find the straight leg ones most flattering. I definitely don't have a sylph like figure but jeans do not make this look worse. Buy the best ones you can and try different brands for a good fit. I like M&S and Dash. You can dress them up or down with different tops and boots or shoes.
Wear whatever you are comfortable with, go for it. smile

I wear jeans much of the time, have different types for different occasions. I have found though, I can't wear levi's now because despite their insistence they have a pair to fit any shape, they don't have one that fits me.
I do spend a while trying on before buying. It's even more difficult than buying a pair of shoes.
I'm no longer 64.....

Why ever not! I am rarely out of jeans. It does probably depend on your size.
Nina is right though.
Trying to get too much flesh inside a pair of jeans does not look good. Loose look trousers would be a far better choice.

I had a colleague who was very tall and quite wide and she always looked smart because she avoided jeans and any tight fitting clothes. Her clothes used to drape nicely over her size. She never had that "sack of potatoes" look.
I think jeggings are a risky choice unless you have long slim legs. I also have short not very shapely legs. I do not do leggings.

I'm early 60s, jeans are a staple part of my wardrobe, our generation have grown up wearing them and I think it's fair to say that there will be loads of 70 year olds and older who continue to wear jeans. I don't think Joanna Lumley for example would worry too much about her age when selecting her clothes. However, I'd steer clear of skin tight jeans with carefully arranged slashes and torn bits in strategic places, a step too far once you're on the wrong side of 40/50 grin

As a man I find a mature lady in a pair of well cut jeans very attractive. Well cut jeans can do wonders for a bum (cheers me up no end as well)

You never miss an opportunity do you ?

Of course you can still wear jeans at 70 Lilypops, you can wear whatever you want. I will be wearing my jeans forever, not the ripped ones for me or the low-rise sort the younger people seem to like. (They look so uncomfortable with the crotch down by their knees). I like Per Una for smart and Monterrey for casual.

I am 70 and have 3 pairs of Next 360 degree skinny jeans and they fit like a dream. You are only as old as you feel there is no age limit in clothing in my opinion although I do not wear skirts above the knee any more.

maryhoffman37 Sun 29-Jan-17 10:13:54

Of course you can! If that's what you want. Personally I loathe jeans and never wear them but if I liked them I would. Age has nothing to do with it.

Diddy1 Sun 29-Jan-17 10:15:28

You can wear jeans at any age as long as you look smart, I am 75 and wear jeans all the time, M+S have straight leg jeans not too skinny, I enjoy wearing them. There is no age when we shouldnt wear jeans, good luck in your search!

hicaz46 Sun 29-Jan-17 10:15:59

Of course you can I'm now 70 and wear jeans and cord jeans

I am nearly 66 and wear jeans a lot, despite 5' 0" and definitely not petite!
I was delighted that GEORGE at Asda, straight cut, size 14, fit me well, and the waist is not tight so no muffin top. Hurrah!

titleyann Sun 29-Jan-17 10:37:30

Too right you can. There are so many styles of jeans you can find a pair that will suit. When I reach my 70s my jeans will be my staple item of clothing. My granddaughter who is 3 says to me often oh granny your not old so why dress that way or act that way. If you have always worn jeans why change,

michellehargreaves Sun 29-Jan-17 10:38:26

I'll be 70 this year and wear jeans every day, mostly black or indigo. Wear them with baggy tops when with the grandchildren , close fitting t shirts and jackets + scarf and earrings when out with friends. Jeans are universal. And i still get a lift from wearing the striped wide necked top, slightly shorter jeans and ballet flats....so Bardot (not that I ever looked like the young Bardot) but it's a classic look.

Thank you ladies! I plan to make a beeline to M&S jeans dept as soon as I 'm in town. I regularly wear jeans (well over 70) but haven't even heard of 'bum lifters'. Blimey........can't wait! As for 'skinny'? Well I'm rounded but not overly fat and I wouldn't consider them. My observation is that the fatter and chunkier the legs, the tighter the jeans. Ugh! However, that's presumably how the individual is happy so - good for them. Great chat....

What I love about wearing jeans is that you can change your footwear as many times as you like and still feel comfortable/smart/casual depending on your mood.

Boots, flip-flops, trainers, wellies, sandals, slippers, bare feet......jeans magically alter their feel to suit.

Boot-cuts are my favourite as they have more of a slimming effect.

I have to attend project meetings; and the first few I was so out of place in "formal" wear, people arrived in jeans & seemed to be less formal for the whole week. I was once told I was "power dressing" because I did NOT wear jeans, so at older than you I joined the informal group but I still wear a nice top & take sosmething else for evening wear.

Luckygirl Sun 29-Jan-17 10:43:10

Do you have two legs? Then, yes you can wear jeans!

Whyever would you think you might not be able to? Age is an irrelevance.

Luckygirl Sun 29-Jan-17 10:43:36

In fact you could wear them with only one leg.

Dharmacat Sun 29-Jan-17 10:43:36

I am 74 and wear jeans every day - slim leg cut rather than skinny, in a range of colours but mainly black for smarter occasions. Tend to buy Brax jeans online from Peter Hahn but they are expensive. M & S Per Una Slim Leg are fitted in the thigh but fall without clinging like the skinny cut. I find that a tapered leg is more flattering - 30 - 34 cms at ankle.

Chattybarbara Sun 29-Jan-17 10:43:39

I wear jeans every single day, all colours but mainly dark blue denim or black - apart from the fact that I like wearing them, my hands are not strong enough to pull up tights these days, so it is rare that I wear a skirt unless it is in the summer when bare legs are ok. My mother told me when I was 30 that I was too old to wear jeans, I ignored her and continue to do so - even if you are a pensioner you can rebel!!

Grandson2008 Sun 29-Jan-17 10:53:52

I live in jeggings all year round so comfortable I am 60 you can dress them up or down mine are from asda or sainsburys so not expensive peacocks do a good range as well so try them

sussexoldbag Sun 29-Jan-17 10:55:45

I live in jeans and always bought Country Casuals petite range. Now they have gone bust and I'm bereft......Precis jeans do not have the same fit or quality. I'm 5ft and 68.
