I need a new pair of jeans, I have always worn them , but hurtling towards 70years old I wonder if I can still wear jeans and then I can't decide on what style, I like the skinny look but I don't have skinny legs, I would love to look effortlessly chic in jeans ,What do other GN,s think?

Oh, believe me, MawBroon, I do.?

Tidyskatemum, That was a nasty comment, I wonder how many people have sniggered behind your back in your crag hopper ensemble! Personally I think crag hoppers only look good on men , like Bear Grylls

I started wearing jeans again at 60 and have both blue and black ones. I am a bit hippy ( no sniggering please) so dont wear skinny, prefer slim bootleg. comfortable and smart. Nearing 70 now and will continue.

How wonderful GN is at times in increasing my English vocabulary. ! I have learnt a new word: craghoppers thanks to Tidy. Never, ever came across the designation before. Must make me a craghopper virgin?

Tidyskatemum women in trousers often look old and out of date, a pair of jeans could take years off you. But don't worry I won't be walking behind you and sniggering, you already have enough to cope with.

Craghoppers special offers are very good for fleece jumpers and I do have a pair of walking trousers which have plenty of pockets to make travelling easier. I'm spending the winter in M&S jeans-style cords which are now quite loose on me so I won't buy jeans until I am sure I can safely go down a size.

Well said Trisher , to Tidyskate,

I've heard of Craghoppers and they're probably good for striding across the Moors, along the river etc.

I have a pair of Craghoppers which I use for walking the dog, likewise their fleece tops. But they're hardly smart enough for general wear.

I agree with .trisher that trousers can look 'old and out of date' especially when worn too short and flapping at ankle length with 'sensible' shoes. Some black trousers are made of really cheap material and look it.

Jeans can be dressed up, dressed down. Worn tucked into boots, or over ankle boots. Dressed up with heels or casual with sneakers. Over-big bottoms can be covered up whether in jeans or trousers by skilful use of shirts, jumpers, billets or cardigans.

Gilets!

Despite everything posted above - you can wear jeans that are the wrong shape for you - you can wear what the hell you fancy! There are no rules - just self appointed fashion police!

Bellasnana Mon 06-Feb-17 08:50:28

Of course you can wear jeans at any age if you want to do so. I've always worn jeans and will continue to do so as long as I am comfortable in them. As for people sniggering behind my back, being 60 is very liberating in this respect as I really couldn't care less what anyone else thinks or says about what I wear. So there.grin

I have lovely fleecy lined craghoppers for the very cold days when walking - ermmmm... like today ❄️❄️But like Anya says not really smart enough for general wear.

I wear jeans when I go out, either denim (my DD says dark blue denim, never light blue?) or I wear black jeans - M&S Limited Edition do some very nice 'high waisted' ones with a handy bit of stretch in them?

My best buy recently has to be my Dublin River boots - so comfortable! Waterproof so that I can wade across the muddy fields and they look great too!

I might be tempted to wear both the craghoppers and the boots today - in the house as we have had no heating or hot water since Thursday❄️and it's proper brass monkey weather flippin' cold in N Shropshire this morning brrrrrr....... The engineer is due at 9.30 to clean the boiler flue and install all the new bits needed to warm us up again..... fingers crossed??

Was that an expletive Anya? grin

MawBroon Mon 06-Feb-17 09:36:35

Oops, just reread your previous post ("billets") grin

iPad taking over again! Didn't you post that gilet picture once before...Joules??

MawBroon Mon 06-Feb-17 11:01:38

I did (and I still like it and <whisper> wear it with jeans!)

Coolgran65 Mon 06-Feb-17 13:15:34

My son wears Craghoppers when out fishing.
It's ok for very casual cosy needs, but not for style.

Deedaa Mon 06-Feb-17 22:35:37

Well I think Mary Berry looks great in jeans. I just wish my figure was as good as hers.

mrsmopp Tue 07-Feb-17 16:20:48

She obviously doesn't eat all those cakes she makes Deedaa - she would be a size 20 if she did!!

Why shouldn't those who feel comfortable in jeans (as I do) wear them when and how they want? Now that I am 65 I can't be bothered to worry about what the clothes police think about my jeans, or my cords when it's cold, or my Rohan Bags when I'm on holiday. I am reminded of a poem by Woodrow Wilson:

For beauty I am not a star,
There are others more perfect by far,
But my face I don't mind it,
For I am behind it,
It is those in front that I jar.

And the same goes for my jeans!
