I have been the proud owner of a secondhand, lovely little car, a Mercedes A class, it was automatic, did everything for you, put the lights on, put the windscreen washers on for you etc. I loved it. It has needed a lot of trips to the garage recently and the costs have mounted but it was always fixed, albeit at a price.
A few weeks ago, it started making an awful noise. Eventually, I've been told it is a really bad fault which is probably terminal or it could cost us a lot of money to put right, take weeks in the garage and no guarantee, of course, that something else wouldn't go wrong the week after! We honestly haven't several thousand pounds to throw at this problem which is probably more than the car is worth! I'm not allowed to even drive it because it could potentially wreck the engine altogether. I'm devastated at the loss of my independence and it would be very inconvenient as OH goes off to golf three days a week so I have to pick DGD up etc.
Have any of you got used to only one car or have any of you any thoughts on maybe going down the lease of a car route?
