My younger daughter now lives in Lincolnshire, several times a week I have to FaceTime the mountains around our town for her to see them.

I met a lovely monk on Caldey , I was sitting alone near the beach and was rather sad, he spoke to me, then wrote on a piece of paper - if you are always in the sun you are in the desert . I liked that

Both my boys have Welsh names, not because they are Welsh but because they were lovely names. My youngest is hoping to go to a Welsh Uni and my Mum was born in Wales as her family evacuated to there in the War. There's no forgetting Wales in this house.

Arrived home safely, thank you annie. Mr C is from the Valleys. I think we have been to most parts of Wales over the years. Nowhere I disliked, well a wet week In a leaky tent near Aberystwyth came close, but my 'runaway' place is Tenby. My first Welsh holiday was there more years ago than seems reasonable. There have been many since. At times of extreme pressure or distress for either of us we go to Tenby. I always come back with a lighter heart, especially if the season and weather permit a trip to Caldey.

And Anniebach, I am glad to feel such Hiraeth..my favourite places in Wales? The Brecon Beacons, Valleys (esp my own), Cardiff, Whitestrand Bay, the Gower, Ty Newydd at Llanystumdwy, Criccieth, the towns on the Wye And Usk - Usk, Ross on Wye, Crickhowell, Brecon, Abergavenny......

I love Wales, I've read Moby Dick five times.

Annie I have probably said before that my favourite part of Wales has to be Pembrokeshire, although we have just about covered the country from one end to t'other! (I still have to go to Snowdonia and get the weather!). I love the drive down from DH's family home in Gwent, where we usually break our journey, up to Merthyr and Brecon. (We like the pretty route!). The Brecon Beacons are breathtaking; and then down the A40 into Carmarthen and onto the coastline that is the best kept secret in Britain (and yes, I've been to Cornwall). I want to GO!! NOW!!!

Anniebach since I moved back to Wales after 35 years in London, one pleasure is to hear Welsh voices and accents all around me, on the bus locally, in the shops.....

And its so beautiful...

Pippa000 does that mean you are in the Vale of Glamorgan? Cherrytree I live in Ogmore by Sea and wondered if your friend was a member of Gransnet? I've only lived in Wales for 15 months and still haven't made any friends. Appeals on this site for any local Gransnetters has drawn a blank. People here are generally very friendly though.

If you've ever driven through the Llanberis pass at sunset, or when there are storm clouds gathering, it will take your breath away.

So proud of my Welsh heritage..dear grandfather and greatgf from Cardiff/Pontypridd. I remember as a youngster learning the ballad of Owen Glendowr and singing Men of Harlech at the top of my voice lol! Such good-looking men too!

I love Wales and that special feeling when we see the Severn Bridge - we go to see the red kites at Gigrin Farm and stay in Rhayader. We go along the Elan Valley, we come back to Dorset which we also love but dream of those mountains. We'vve been there in snow, rain and more sunshine than Wales is supposed to have! We have red kites here now but that's not going to stop me going back!

I am trying to think of my favourite part of Wales, impossible, I love the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains, Snowdonia. The entire coastline south to north. The long South Wales valley streets. Suppose if I was told I could walk in one part one more time it would be Red Wharf Bay in Anglesey because I know at least nine generations of my family have walked there

I should say I have the misfortune to live in mid Wales where the majority of people are anti English. Not so in the valleys especially around Merthyr Tydfil where the people are warm and friendly.

Perhaps if the Welsh were more welcoming to the English then English people would think more of Wales

My mother and her family came from the South Wales valleys and I have always loved Wales.My daughter and her family love it too and would like to live there so it must be in the blood.

I love North Wales.

I'm another who loves Wales, I've enjoyed happy family holidays over the the years both in the Cardigan area and in Gwynedd. My very favourite place is Arthog on the Mawddach Estuary, we're due to go there again May and I can't wait!
