I was 9lbs 12oz at birth attributed by the midwife to mother having spent most of the pregnancy in bed (rest cure she had TB). I have spent my life battling with my weight- is it connected probably not. How about everyone else?

(This came up because I just saw a photograph of a new born who weighed 8lbs and he looked gigantic I must have been a fright).

I was 9 lb, which apparently was a source of great pride, added to by me weighing two stone at six months. Breast and bottle fed!
By the time I had my children, the 'eating for two' excuse had gone, and babies over 7lb were frowned on.

Very Small babies can be treated as delicate and can grow up believing they are delicate and vulnerable.. a bit wrapped in cotton wool.

If you look back a little ajanela you will see I was 3lb 6oz and my twin died within hours of our birth. It did mean my mother tried to have me 'wrapped in cotton wool' - quiet understandably as she gave birth to six children and only two of us survived - and she knew she wouldn't be able to have any more after us. However, little though I was right up to 11, when I became average height and weight, I certainly didn't think I was delicate and vulnerable - and I don't now! (how rude hmm)

Most new born babies average between 5lb 8oz (2,500 grams) and 8lb 13oz (4,000 grams)apparently. I seem to remember my children's birth weight passing without much comment, one was 7lb 2oz and the other 7lb 6oz. I was just glad and sad I didn't have twins. It did mean I was in early on the scans though as they wanted to check as early as possible. I don't think everyone was having scans when I had my first baby.
