Hi me my daughter and my grandson went shopping this morning to buy all of his new school uniform as he is starting secondary school in September.
I bought all of his new uniform as I agreed with my daughter that I was going to. The cost was quite expensive. If you had to buy uniform this year how much did it cost?
My grandsons uniform I bought him 2 of everything
School jumper with school logo £11
School polo shirt with school logo £9
Black school trousers £7
School shoes £2
Pe top £10
Pe shorts £7

We have been out looking for cheap school stuff for the new term for the grandchildren. Thing is to pay less so we can help with the drum, piano, dance and harp lessons. Think I might look for a part time job.

M0nica, I did a short course with Future Learn recently, on where our clothes come from. Apparently, although they are being ripped off, garment workers producing cheap clothes for us don't want us to stop buying them as then they'd have no jobs.

No coat? Bag? Tie? Football boots?

This gran is running late, most have had their uniform since the end of July because that's when the schools sell them. Has she bought 2 shoes at £2 each or 2 pairs of shoes at £2 a pair? Either way it's a bargain!
I think it's silly season or that assignment again.

Ah, I seee now! wink thank you, Maw.

You might be missAdventure
If you can , try to find past threads on Onesies/"daps" /Vans from Shoe zone and similar posts from an apparent assortment of grans complaining about the "exorbitant" cost of their grandson's school uniform. hmmhmm

MissAdventure Sun 20-Aug-17 20:31:06

I'm obviously missing something here.. sigh.

You can buy ethically sourced uniform, because apparently a lot of them aren't. There again, paying a lot doesn't guarantee ethical production always.

Oh, Monica...sigh

I couldn't help myself Jalima :-)

I am the only one who feels very uneasy about these very cheap school uniforms. Lucky for us, being able to buy school uniform cheaply but what about the families of the workers that make these very cheap uniforms. Are their rates of pay so low that they cannot afford to educate their own children?

Jalima1108 Sun 20-Aug-17 20:05:42

don't mention plimsolls N&G grin

NanaandGrampy Sun 20-Aug-17 20:03:57

What about plimsolls? Football boots? Hockey boots? Hockey stick? Cricket whites?

AND 2 shirts ? Only 2 ? I'm sorry but you seriously haven't thought this through.... back to school for you :-)

MiniMouse Sun 20-Aug-17 20:00:54

Forgot the onesie!

MissAdventure Sun 20-Aug-17 19:58:06

I think its supermarket sort of pricing. I was looking in Sainsbury the other day, reminiscing back to the time when my grandsons fitted into them.

Jalima1108 Sun 20-Aug-17 19:57:12

I shall so miss them all, but we do want them to mix with the right people.

Smithy Sun 20-Aug-17 19:56:12

That uniform actually seems inexpensive to me. I can remember my mum bless her buying my son a (compulsory) blazer in 1981 for my son and it was £33 - a LOT of money then.

Jalima1108 Sun 20-Aug-17 19:56:08

Just think of their feet shock

£2 will not even buy a label to sew into their tailcoats

MissAdventure Sun 20-Aug-17 19:53:14

Nothing wrong with shoezone, but 2 pounds a pair seems cheap, even for a miser like me.

Jalima1108 Sun 20-Aug-17 19:52:50

Well, my triplet grandsons are all going up to Eton; the basic uniform is about £1,000 each but of course, there are all the extras to consider.

However, we can well afford it, so we have no worries.

Have to put some on one side for the twin granddaughters who will be going up to Wycombe Abbey next year.

[sigh]

may have to put my round-the-world cruise on hold for a year, but never mind, as long as the kids are happy smile

Goodness, those school shoes seem to have been a bargain! hmm
