Are there any words which you find distasteful for any reason?
One which springs to my mind is 'panties'. It sounds so twee..

Christinefrance Thu 31-Aug-17 21:15:09

"Real parents" when referring to biological parents. Using medical terms loosely e.g. paranoid, OCD, these are serious problems for sufferers not to be used for minor issues.

Alima Thu 31-Aug-17 21:20:20

Panties. Awful word, sounds really pervy.

(What's up with you Anya, waiting for another vibrator thread?)

lemongrove Thu 31-Aug-17 21:23:58

Panties, kiddies, hubbies ( there seems to be a theme here)
Wifey, furbabies, drinkies, I could go on, but it would be a bit Victor Meldrew like so will stop now.?

I have a friend who always calls me "hun" in texts. I'm assuming she doesn't mean "Atilla the"..

MissAdventure Thu 31-Aug-17 21:26:05

"Littlies" for children.

cornergran Thu 31-Aug-17 21:27:34

Calling a group of women 'guys'. Inaccurate, irritating and down right lazy.

MissAdventure Thu 31-Aug-17 21:29:48

"Bestie" for best friend.

Su66 Thu 31-Aug-17 21:54:09

I can't believe how rude you have come across on this thread Anya. Only hope I have missed the light heartedness that was supposed to be interpreted!!!!! If none was intended then I suggest that you do not post unless it is with a constructive comment. Hope all ladies are keeping well. NNGB

'The/my good lady' is one of my pet hates, in fact anything to do with ladies! 'Yourselves/ourselves' make me pull faces and cringe.

MissAdventure Thu 31-Aug-17 22:05:39

Yes, I found it quite rude, and I'm feeling pretty fragile lately.
Quite knocked the wind out of my sails, I have to say.

mostlyharmless Thu 31-Aug-17 22:06:30

Girlies: (see other thread) definitely not acceptable
Ladies: I'm afraid I don't like that
Folks: hate being referred to as folks.

MissAdventure Thu 31-Aug-17 22:08:17

I often use folks. I always think it sounds quite quaint.
Girlies, on the other hand - I don't like that at all!

Su66 Thu 31-Aug-17 22:09:52

Don't take any notice MissAdventure. There are more nice people on here than insensitive "ones". Old saying, if you have nothing nice/constructive to say then say nothing. Or my words "keep your mouth shut". Hope you feel stronger soon MissAdventure. x

grumppa Thu 31-Aug-17 22:10:55

I'm lost. What's wrong with cant, batch and nagger?

Scribbles Thu 31-Aug-17 22:14:06

Moist. Just typing the word makes my skin crawl over my bones.

MissAdventure Thu 31-Aug-17 22:15:13

Thank you, Su66. smile very much.X

MissAdventure Thu 31-Aug-17 22:19:27

I don't like "Willy" unless its used by a child, and have seen it written in notes by carers.
Use the proper word for it!

Chewbacca Thu 31-Aug-17 22:20:44

Hate the word moist; makes my skin crawl too. Also hate the word gusset. perish the thought that both words come up in the same sentence.

MissAdventure Thu 31-Aug-17 22:21:54

Oh I dislike gusset too. It somehow sounds really quite rude, to me.

devongirl Thu 31-Aug-17 22:22:29

"queenie" for the queen

MissAdventure Thu 31-Aug-17 22:31:43

Incidentally, "Moist" tops the list of words women hate, according to Google
Reminiscent of torrid romance novels, maybe?

callgirl1 Thu 31-Aug-17 23:08:04

At this moment in time, what`s wrong with saying now?

MawBroon Thu 31-Aug-17 23:11:52

I rather like "gusset" makes me think of those knee length directoire knickers my great aunt wore!
I hate "panties" too, also "healthy option, slimming, low calorie, low fat (all of these even worse if "lo" ) and lite"
"Guys" annoys me, but "girls" or "ladies" sounds patronising. "My dear, my love" instead of Madam in shops, and any of the current goodbyes used on mobile phones e.g."love you" when did we EVER say that on the TELEPHONE?

MissAdventure Thu 31-Aug-17 23:14:48

I don't like 'babe' or especially 'babes' when used by another woman to me. It sounds like a veiled insult, I think. I can tolerate it from a male.

Nelliemoser Thu 31-Aug-17 23:19:55

How would you address a whole group of other women you know.
A mixed group can be referred to as "Ladies and Gentlemen"
"Ladies" has been considered as a social class ridden anachroism.
"Girls" is disapproved of as infantalising women.
A few people with over zealous ideas about political correctness have made this difficult .

"Women" sounds really odd and clumsy .
You lot?
You guys ?
How do we deal with this. (No men allowed in this group)
