I don't know why everyone is so surprised, GN is a business and we use it free of charge - I suppose they have to make their money somehow!

I think some direct questions from lolts of members to GN re that copyright notice is due -

"If, as they state, they have copyright, can/do they exercise their right to stop publications such as the DM from direct copying/screenshots of what has been posted?"

Email them at [email protected] asking that very question - or report this post to them and ask the question in the text box that appears.

I think you're being naïve - why would GN not want to appear in the Daily Mail, it's one of the world's most-read online papers!

There are threads from Mumsnet on there almost on a daily basis.

As I said, it's a business.

They might not be doing anything to stop the copying, but I don't think they actively supply stuff. They don't need to, do they, when the newshounds at the DM are always sniffing around for exciting copy to fuel their own circulation?

Why do you not want to admit to reading the DM. It's not one of the 7 deadly sins, yet, although on GN it's thought of as the spawn of the devil, but in the real world it's still a perfectly normal newspaper to read.

I can't see the DM handing over money for what they can copy for nothing.

I'm quite happy to post openly about my political leanings and my opinions on current affairs but I am very cautious about discussing personal/family issues - and this "lifting" of a thread from Gransnet by the Mail reinforces that caution.

I would imagine most people now will feel the same and they will be reluctant to speak about anything personal, which seems a shame because sometimes people need to talk about things that are upsetting them.

Yes it is a shame that we now have to think very hard before we post about any personal issues we may have unless we change some of the details.
Only problem I have with that is I have a rubbish memory so would forget what I'd said on a previous thread !

I flick through the Mail online (as well as other papers) - they often have good photographic coverage of news items, the app is extremely user-friendly (unlike some other newspapers) and there is no paywall. I actually buy it frequently on a Saturday because I like the TV guide in their Weekend magazine. Just recently I read the Daily instalment of Prue Leith's autobiography, it was hilarious and interesting. So, shoot me!

(Don't know why daily had a capital "D"). What I mean is I read extracts of Prue Leith's book, serialised in the DM over a couple of days, last week I think.

The DM's breaking news is often quicker to report an incident than any other sources.

So there you have it. Forum posts being seen in public is the most important thing for GN.

We all have pseudonyms so I don't understand how we could be recognised.

Its pretty easy, I would think. Most post about their lives (without too much actual detail) enough that I can remember bits and bobs about the names I see on here.

Have any of you googled you username to see what happens?
There was one thing on there I am not happy about but having the name of a variety of a plant although spelling is different might confuse my identity.

I'm frightened to Google my name. I'll leave it to anyone who gets an inkling of who I am and decides to check me out, if ever anyone is that interested (which I strongly doubt)

When I googled my username I found that there are a lot of Maggiemaybes out there, all having interesting times, writing thrillers, making music, designing stuff. Seven pages in I came across myself, droning on about soupmakers....
