Tight Under Trousers

I work in a care home and we are only supposed to wear flat shoes so I wore a pair of boots to work as it is rele wet and windy here today and was just changing my boots to my flat shoes when one of my work colleagues remarked that she should have worn socks as well as was cold, I replied that they werent actually socks and they were actually a pair of wooly tights I had on underneath. She then asked why I was wearing tights under trousers and I told her it was a cold day plus I go outside for a ciggie on my breaks. She then said that wearing tights under trousers is wrong though to be honest I do not see what is wrong with this at all.

maw grin and don't forget the school uniform discussion too!

FarNorth Mon 30-Oct-17 18:53:41

Half term, MawBroon? That has even less to do with the subject than plimsolls!

Wellies, as suggested by lemongrove, are so sensible for this time of year and, paired with a tasteful onesie - zebra, polkadot, zigzag etc - you have a cosy outfit.

Lesley you will have the last laugh in 20 or 30 years time, when your colleague has developed arthritic knees due to cold draughts, while you still skip blithely along (unless the fags get you first, of course.)

Well that's all given me a good laugh as I wait for the tea to cook grin. I've never worn tights under jeans as they're just too uncomfortable but I did once wear them under a pair of loose trousers. Got out of the car to call at someone's house and OH yelled out the window what's that trailing behind you? Yes - the dreaded tights I'd forgotten were still inside the trouser leg!!

Bellanonna Mon 30-Oct-17 18:03:09

Good grief Margs. Sharon/Lesley were/was only asking if they/she should wear tight undertrousers. Personally I think they sound painful and I don’t think they/she should. But that’s just my opinion ?

Margs Mon 30-Oct-17 15:01:24

Good grief, Lesleyberry67 - has your colleague always been such a nosey parker? Her thorough interrogation of your reasons for dressing as you do would have made Josef Stalin and the KGB proud!

No business of hers whatsoever - rude cow......

With tights underneath the tight under-trousers?

carolmary Mon 30-Oct-17 09:59:36

I should have added that round here it's fashionable to wear pyjamas to Tesco!

carolmary Mon 30-Oct-17 09:57:04

W11girl what a good idea. I have some expensive woolly tights I can't wear because they are too long. I'd never thought of turning them into long johns. I shall take the scissors to them this afternoon!

Ruby21 Mon 30-Oct-17 08:28:27

I wear fleece lined tights under mine!

lemongrove Mon 30-Oct-17 08:22:05

I think you are right there MawBroon. ?
I would always wear my tweed jacket to go into Waitrose ( not just on it’s own you understand.)

Always remember that ‘mites go up and tites come down’
Especially in The Argy.wink

Bellanonna Mon 30-Oct-17 08:07:57

Not if you have tight under-trousers Elegran ?

Elegran Mon 30-Oct-17 08:00:22

Only one tight? Don't you need a pair?

MawBroon Mon 30-Oct-17 06:59:54

But they are not infrequently a half term issue farNorth. grin

lemongrove I hope no actual zebras were harmed in the making of that onesie. I think you should be OK in Morrisons or Shoe Zone, but would not risk it in Waitrose.

I remember a TV feature many years ago when builders and road workers were interviewed to ask if they would consider wearing tights at work, as they'd been proven to increase warmth.
Once they knew that the tights wouldn't be worn alone, but would be under trousers, the guys were all for it. (No women workers were included in the interviews).

Why is someone trying to drag plimsolls into this discussion? They are not winter wear at all. confused

Tegan2 Sun 29-Oct-17 23:29:29

Jockeys wear tights under their breeches in the winter to keep warm...

Chewbacca Sun 29-Oct-17 22:30:53

It's de rigeur in these parts lemon. In fact, you'd be shot if you didn't!

lemongrove Sun 29-Oct-17 22:17:16

Would it be considered infra dig If I go into Morrisons with
My zebra onsie tucked into wellingtons? I ask, because my neighbour says this should never be done, and further to that anyone who wears a onsie in public should be shot!

Chewbacca Sun 29-Oct-17 22:14:06

How about whether vests should be tucked in or left out? That's just ridiculous Maw! It's the law that vests must be tucked into knickers. Sheesh, I thought everyone knew that!

Bellanonna Sun 29-Oct-17 22:12:45

Better still under onesies, lemongrove?

lemongrove Sun 29-Oct-17 22:07:45

Are tights ok with plimsolls??

MawBroon Sun 29-Oct-17 22:03:37

As I said elsewhere on another thread not a million miles away -someone is ‘avin a larf.

FarNorth Sun 29-Oct-17 21:09:37

It's amazing how much rambling a bunch of grans can do, on almost any topic.
It keeps their poor old brain cells active, I suppose. smile

FarNorth Sun 29-Oct-17 21:07:14

what on Earth are you going to do when Winter really kicks in lesleyberry?
Or do you live in the far North?

I live in the Far North but haven't found it cold enough to need tights under my trousers, or joggers over them, so far this year.

Audible eye-rolling, as Maw suggests, seems the right response to this colleague's remark.

MawBroon Sun 29-Oct-17 20:37:08

71 opinions on “tights under trousers”?
How about whether vests should be tucked in or left out?
If somebody says something bonkers like “it is wrong (?) to wear tights under trousers do I
1) laugh as this is clearly a joke
2) tell them to naff off and mind their own business
3) hmm roll my eyes audibly or
4) ask a load of total strangers what they think?
I will leave you to guess.
